SO energy

Has anyone had conversations with SO energy with regards to fixed tariff and the budget reductions from April 2026?

I called them to clarify their position as I am considering tranfering to them to an EV tariff. I asked if I signed up to their fixed tariff would they reduce the tariff in April when the discounts apply.  I was told as I would be on a fixed tariff NO as the budget reduction would only apply to variable or standard tariffs and anyone on a fixed tariff would not have the reductions applied to their acaccounts.
I made the point that I was under the impression that they had agreed to pass on the discounts as I had read they would be in the Martin Lewis MSE. I was again told NO only standard and variable.  I did record the call so that I cannot be challenged. 

Anyone had similar conversations with them.

    I just wonder what would be the view of the customers and the energy companies with regard to fixed tariffs and a new levy being introduced by the Government rather than a levy being removed?

    According to Martins show last night, all Energy providers should let their customers know 6 weeks in advance of April 1st.

    This was verified by the Ofgem chap. Yet I have still heard nothing!

    Has any So energy fixed tarriff customers heard anything?

    The only way the consumer would pay a different rate would be if VAT on energy was changed by the government.

    I would expect nothing and see any saving I did get as a bonus.

    Imagine the uproar if it went the other way. Redefines fixed!

    A levy that is being removed specifically to help the consumer not boost the energy companies profit?

    The simple answer is just use a different supplier and remember their stance on the future. Vote with your feet

    I don't believe any supplier has contacted any of their customers yet with full details.

    But you are correct, Ofgem confirmed all* suppliers have committed to reduce their prices for all their customers, even those on fixed tariffs, passing on the savings from the policy changes announced in the last budget.

    • only exception is Tulo Energy, who will now get getting a proverbial knock on their door from Ofgem

    ETA:

    I can only suspect the Ofgem CEO was possibly conflating 2 different matters, neither of which probably apply here, when responding live & seemingly off the hoof to the very unusual situation of suppliers changing the price of a fixed rate contract mid term.

    i.e. with fixed term contracts (many of which are also fixed rate) suppliers should contact customers 42 to 49 days before the contract ends to inform them of their options, and explain that any early exit fees no longer apply to their current contract.

    For those on a variable tariff, suppliers should provide at least 30 days advance notice of a price increase or other changes to a customers contract that leaves the customer significantly worse off. Otherwise the requirement is only reasonable advance notice.

    Worth also noting that no supplier has informed their customers on their default tariff of price changes effective 01-Apr-2026, not least because Ofgem only released the price cap details a few hours ago. But fortunately the price change is not an increase this time, so probably no rush.

    @fireball1955. Did you get any clarity? What I'm being told is to wait for my next bill to understand what they'll be charging which seems a bit ridiculous
