Aldi Robot vacuum cleaner return dispute

bought a robot vacuum cleaner mid july last year in local aldi, kept the receipt for months but now cant locate it
i have a larger than usual outgoing on my bank statement (cost of vacuum was £99) on that date but aldi are saying i must have receipt - they cant repair as no longer have parts apparently so a refund is my only option
i have all the packaging and the guarantee
what are my options?

If you’re making a claim on the guarantee and that states you must produce a receipt, then you need the receipt. You have separate rights under Consumer Rights Act which only states you need proof of purchase so a bank statement should be fine and they should be able to bring it up on their system. What was the exact date of purchase? As after 6 months, the onus would be on you to show a manufacturing fault before Aldi need to act under CRA.1

It's up to you to substantiate that you purchased it from them and when. Was it branded to Aldi or another brand thats sold elsewhere?ashpan said:bought a robot vacuum cleaner mid july last year in local aldi, kept the receipt for months but now cant locate it

How long have they been selling this device for?
In civil law you have to get to the level of "on the balance of probabilities", ie its 51% or more likely that your version of the story is true rather than the much higher "beyond reasonable doubt" required in criminal law. It's therefore all about providing as much evidence as possible but without needing to have the smoking gun.
Some retailers will be helpful and can use info on a bank statement to try and find the original receipt, others arent and some may not keep that level of detailed records to be able to help even fi they want to.1 -
so its aldis own range Ambiano, the cost isnt separately identified on a receipt from 15 july but it was a much bigger than usual amount than i would usually spend on a weekly shop - maybe they can identify it from this on my bank statement? I started messaging them about a month ago so within 6 months of purchase -they take a few days to respond so progress has been sluggish but they re adamant i need the receipt so ive quoted consumer rights and requested escalationMyRealNameToo said:

All your bank statement will show is the retailer, amount & date. Nothing more, ashpan said:

Love it when you speak to someone who thinks that banks get a copy of what you purchased 🤦♀️

Ok, if it's their own stuff it makes life easier because they can't claim you bought it from JL but are returning it to them because their returns policy is more generous etc.ashpan said:

Do you know how long they have been selling it for? Is it something recent or something they've been selling for years? Clearly if they only started selling it from Jan last year, for example, then clearly it can't be 4 years old etc. Maybe they would reduce the refund more than if you could prove it was from July but a lot less than if it could be years old. Similarly look on the box, a minority occasionally have a manufacture date which again puts a backstop on how long ago you could have bought it.
Bank statements show you bought stuff, not what stuff. Again if this is only one with an increased sum since the day they released it again adds to your argument but if you periodically spend over £100 then the argument is weakened as any of those could have been the time you bought it.1 -
so it has a date on the box of june 2025 - theyve sold other models before but not this oneMyRealNameToo said:

spoke to aldi customer services as opposed to their repairs number and they said to return to the store where it was purchased with a phot of my bank statement which was much higher than normal and a reference number from them and they should refund, repairs said they no longer have parts for this model so it will have to be a refund
wish me luck!!!0
