Is the landlord legally correct

thank you for all the comments.
The LA was in agreement with myself, and we responded to the collections company that we will carry on paying the LA.
However the LA has now back tracked, and advised we are to pay the Collections company direct as there is nothing they can do now?
I asked why their stance has changed and they started they spoke to the Landlord, and she confirmed she’s already been paid out by the insurer, therefore we can only deal with the collections company now?
I have just emailed the Collection company the below, whilst we seek any advice from any members?
Good afternoonWithout Prejudice
Please note that at this point we are still in dispute for this claim.
We require further information to assess this claim.
We need the date that the insurance claim was made by the landlord, to your client.
We require a full breakdown of the sum claimed.

Why does it matter to you who you pay, if the LL and LA both agree?
I would just make sure the amounts are the same ie how much do you have left to pay the agent on your payment plan vs what are the collections company asking for?
Either ask the agent to refund what you've paid / pass it on to the collections co OR write to the collections co informing them you've already paid £x to the LA and your balance is settled upon payment of £y remaining.
Getting into the specifics of the LL's insurance claim is a waste of time.

I believe the issue is that the collections company, on behalf of the insurance company, are trying to charge more than double the original debt. From the first post…
From an original debt of £1400, they state he now owes them £2900.

How much did the landlord claim from the insurance company?
Could they have claimed the higher amount?

That's exactly why the OP has asked the collection company…
We require a full breakdown of the sum claimed.

The chances are the collection have no information other than the amount outstanding.
Woukd information about the landlord's financial affairs with the insurance company be given out to a third party?0
