You don't say what your budget is but you could do a lot worse than look at Vivendi nylon carpet by Associated Weavers0

Carpet that is thick and soft, would normally not be that durable or easy to clean.
Usually in high traffic areas, like hallways and stairs, you want something with a short dense pile.
80/20 wool blend are good for this, as are Nylon carpets.
In a bedroom, you can go more for something with a softer feel, which would normally be a synthetic material like Polypropylene.

Don't forget the underlay. This can make a difference to the softness and longevity of a carpet.
Wool stays cleaner if vacuum regularly and doesn't tred down unless under a lot of hard wear and dirt.
If it gets very dirty clean once, leave to dry thoroughly and clean again.
It is mixed with synthetic fibres 80/20 to give it extra strength and avoid carpet moth.
Synthetics are cheaper and can be hard wearing for high traffic but will tread down, compress much quicker and remain that way.
Can be cleaned but it becomes more frequent.
Start with the fibre content you want and the underlay. Choose the colour.
After that it's mostly what an individual company is promoting which is confusing.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
