Came across a ScamBlocker advert! has anyone else tried something like this?
came across an advert on Facebook recently for something called ScamBlocker and it caught my eye because scam calls seem to be getting worse, especially since our landline was switched over to VoIP.
From what I can tell, it works by screening unknown callers before the phone actually rings, rather than just blocking numbers (which never seems to work as they just change). Genuine callers still get through, but scam or nuisance calls don’t reach you.
I’m naturally sceptical of anything advertised on Facebook, so before going any further I wondered if anyone on here has tried this sort of call screening setup, or found something that genuinely works for elderly or vulnerable people?
Blocking numbers, TPS, and “call blocker” phones haven’t really solved it for us, as the people who call dont really care about the TPS, so interested in real-world experiences rather than sales claims.
The website is scamblocker.co.uk it seems to be new and couldn't find much info other that it seems to be owned by another telecoms provider. They look to have full terms on the website and a part of an ADR service. I've checked with the ADR who confirmed its a legit OFCOM resitered telco, im 50/50 on signing up, due the the amount of scam calls I get.

Sounds like the sort of thing trueCall does. I had a trueCall box for years, and it was brilliant. Now I have a landline phone with their technology built in.1

The company name is odd "We Are One 1 Limited", the company "We Are One Limited" is registered to the same address but is a travel agent owned by a different person.
For a Voip provider their costs seem high but then developing technologies costs money.
iPhones have an option to push calls that arent in your address book to screening these days for free, I've been seeing how it works recently and so far its doing an ok job of filtering out spam calls but dont get that many calls to really test it. Personally more concerned about legitimate callers not bothering engaging with the system and therefore lose opportunities etc, that said the one Recruitement agent that has called since turning it on did engage and I spoke to them.
This seems to work by "learning" who are trusted callers rather than using your address book. Guess one concern could be it incorrectly learning that a spammer is a genuine caller and/or your friends family being blocked due to errors in the learning or because one of your friends is a bit of a joker and gives the machine a silly answer so finds themselves blocked.0 -
Just reading through looks like you can add trusted contacts that go straight through, i guess that makes sense. I have android phone for mobile that says suspected spam already, this was mainly for my home phone. I must get 2-3 of thse calls a day from the usual suspects. thanks for the advice.MyRealNameToo said:The company name is odd "We Are One 1 Limited", the company "We Are One Limited" is registered to the same address but is a travel agent owned by a different person.

I found that a call blocker phone worked very well for my elderly father who was previously very nearly scammed by the "bank security department" What problem have you had with them? Agree that TPS is pointless for overseas scammers.0

UPDATE
I requested more information yesterday. Here's the reply"Thanks for getting in touch and for your interest in ScamBlocker.
ScamBlocker is designed to stop scam and nuisance calls before they reach you or your family. Instead of simply blocking phone numbers (which scammers can easily change or spoof), ScamBlocker screens unknown callers first. Genuine callers are allowed through, while suspicious or scam calls are filtered out before the phone rings.
The service is particularly helpful for elderly or vulnerable people, as there’s no app to use and no complicated settings. Existing phones can be used as normal, and everything works quietly in the background. Family members can also be involved if support is needed.
ScamBlocker works with UK landlines and broadband providers and is suitable for modern digital and VoIP phone setups. It’s designed to reduce stress and help people feel confident answering their phone again, without disrupting everyday calls.
Below is FAQ's and a link to the full FAQ page.
We replace your current landline with a digital voice line. The line is connected to our platform. We provide a device you can plug your phone into. You can keep your existing number. If you’d like, we can explain how it would work in your specific situation or answer any questions you may have about setup, costs, or compatibility. We can always discuss by phone if thats easier for you.
Kind regards,
The ScamBlocker Team0 -
Whole thing sounds a bit “dodgy”
From that response about replacing your landline, I imagine you will be using them as your provider
Generally, I wouldn’t trust anything advertised on FB
Our BT phones with built in truCall do exactly the same function with the digital line - not had a unwanted call for years4 -
So they are a VOIP provider with some network hosted call blocking. How good it is, who knows. As previously mentioned, phones with built in call blocking do very good job and are provider independent.0

@littleboo nice find on the news article. I decided to order. I spoke to them on the phone. Its not just a call blocking system, it uses AI to analyse the conversation. I was able to transfer my number from BT. I will update on the service, so far so good.
