Carers Allowance query

Hello, i am 59 in receipt of PIP, daily and disability elements. I require quite alot of looking after with both mental health and physical issues. This is currently shared by my family, my mum who is 83, my daughter, a single mum, and my brother. My brother has worked as a waerhouseman for many years. Now in his early fifties it is becoming too much for him and he is going to have to give it up. When he does, he has suggested applying to be my carer to relieve the pressure from the other members of my family, and it makes sense as he only lives 200 yards away. Can anyone offer advice on what he needs to do to claim carers allowance once he makes this decision please.
Thankyou.

If he gives up work is he going to need to apply for other means-tested benefits such as universal credit to pay his rent - if he is a tenant, for example. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

As I recall it's all very straight forward, provide the details required (see link) and that's it. It may take a few weeks to get paid but it should be backdated to the date they receive the application.
He will have to follow the rules, 35 hours a week as your carer and limit any other work he does. Might be easy enough with his experience to get a job at the local Tescos for 15 hours a week to increase his income. Carer's only pays a bit over £80 a week so it's not a huge amount to live on. If he's applying for benefits this might be affected as well.
