We're a little bit odd, as on paper we currently have very little "income", but quite substantial liquid assets.

DH (59) - Retired, pension DD of £15,000
OP (54) - 'Housewife', no income currently (other than some interest)

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)

Whenever I apply for a switch or new account I just put my current salary. I don't include the bonus as it's obviously not guaranteed and I won't know what pay rise we get until after reviews are done so I can't say if my income will rise.

If the apps ever ask me to check details I will update them

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I too applied for a new bank account, same question asked on the application, my, cash, deposits took me over their annual deposit figure and it exceeds their limits re anti money laundering stance and so no account granted.
Haven't come across maximum annual deposits into current accounts before - which bank and account was this?

I think it's the fact that cash deposits are mentioned, not merely deposits.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Perhaps, but that would seem an unusual question to ask in an application form?

Maybe, but as I haven't applied for quite some time, I don't really know. Banks are updating their policies all of the time.
