To celebrate our online image reference library, we’re offering cash prizes of up to £1500 (or the equivalent in your local currency), a feature in an upcoming issue of Artists and Illustrators Magazine, and a £250 Cass Art Gift Card for the best drawing or painting based on one of our image references.

We have some 3,000 photographic image references of portrait, figure, still life and landscapes; searchable by model type, pose type and more. A number of these are completely free, and the rest are available via a subscription.

All you need to do to enter is choose an image and produce a painting or drawing based on it, and submit it using this simple online form.

You can enter the competition as many times as you want. If you are a Raw Umber Image or Gold subscriber, you can use any image from our image library, not just the free ones.

There’s a cash prize of £1,000 for the painting we judge to be the best, and a £500 cash prize awarded by public vote. PLUS the overall winner will feature in an upcoming issue of Artists and Illustrators Magazine AND receive a £250 Cass Art Gift Card* courtesy of our friends at Cass Art.

Applications close on midday of 1st March 2026 and we’ll announce the winner and open the public vote shortly after.

* Note that Cass Art employees are not eligible for the Cass Art Gift Card, and they are only available to UK competition entrants
