Bank charges from Abbey...Can I get them back?

I recently had a Sky DD bounce (£142) and then they tried to take it a week later and it bounecd again.

Abbey have charged me £35 both times totalling £70. I phoned them up and said that the charge was over the top at 50% of the DD and that Iwas only earning £60 / week and it was more then my weeks wages. The bloke was very unhelpful. He said he would get someone to phone me back to discuss it.

Nobody phoned and I received a letter on the 12/12/07....

As discussed, an investidation of the charges relating to your account has been carried out. As they have applied in line with our current tarriff of charges and haven't arisen as a result of a proven Abbey error, no further refunds will be applied.

The account is now in arrears of £66 and as it is a basic account (due to my bankruptcy) I have no OD and Ihavent put any money into it as Im not sure if I have a right to try and get it back. I also am worried as I am showing £66 in debt and obviously what with the BR and working hard to get my money in order it has just put me well in the swanny!

Should Isend another letter and contest this? If so,...What should I write?

Please see Martin's guide (link in my signature) for your options.
  • I think I may understand why the person you spoke to was (or sounded) unhelpful...

You say that £70 in charges is over one weeks wages/income, but in the same way that means your Sky bill is over half your monthly income? Is this the normal amount you pay or was this a one off payment for something?
    Credit card debts = £750
