Parking fine: court letter help please

I parked in a hotel car park for 10 mins as I had popped into the gym to find out the cost. At no point did the hotel ask me to give my car registration no, there was no ticket on my car. The hotel had only recently started using a car parking firm and I was unaware of this. I had not noticed any signs. A few weeks later I received a letter from SMART parking Ltd. I immediately contacted the hotel. They asked for my reg no and told me not to worry, they would get the parking ticket cancelled. A few weeks later I received a further letter from SMART. Again I was assured by the hotel ‘not to worry’ about it. It would be cancelled in time. Further letters from the car parking firm came, I contacted them to no avail, the hotel were still advising that it would be cancelled but by that time I was told by SMART the time for formal appeal had been passed and insisted I pay.
The hotel asked me to hand over letters detailing ‘fines’ from the parking company so that they could appeal them so I no longer have any paperwork from the parking company.
This has now been going on for some time. The hotel or SMART are no longer interested in my appeal. I am a disabled driver with a Blue Badge and a pensioner on a very low income. I cannot pay this charge.
Now I have received a Claim form from the CNBC in Northampton threatening a CCJ. I have no idea what to do now. The ticket was way back in June 2023 so I have been hounded by this company for a long time. I am sure I’ve made mistakes in dealing with this in the past. I should not have taken the hotels word in this. The hotel have washed their hands of this now. I would welcome advice on how to deal with this.
