Car tyre/wheel stalemate

Hi, my car went over a pot hole the other day and damaged the wheel and tyre. I took it to a local tyre company who said they didn’t have a replacement wheel but they would try and repair the damaged one and replace the tyre too. They did this and sent me on my way after I’d paid for their service. A day or two later the new tyre went flat and it’s generally considered that their wheel repair didn’t work hence another flat tyre. I went back to the local tyre company saying I want my money back to which they said it’s the wheel that’s the issue and they can’t perform miracles (even though they were happy to take my money and say they had sorted the wheel and waved me off a few days earlier). Where do I stand with regards to getting a refund on what I paid them? They are refusing to give a refund. I paid by card although they didn’t give me a receipt.

Any chance you paid on a credit card OP and was over £100?Services must be carried out with due care and skill, where they aren’t you are entitled to a price reduction or can claim damages that stem naturally from the breach and are foreseeable.
The downside is that burden of proof (on the balance of probability, I.e 50/50) is upon yourself so first step would be to take it somewhere else and see if they’ll put an opinion on paper should that opinion be they should have known the wheel was knackered and no good for a new tyre.
If that’s the case you can present the info to them, if you can’t come to an agreement it is ultimately letter before action and small claims.A smaller business may be more likely to dig their heels in and going through the court process is a bit of a headache so if you can’t get at least 75% of what you’ve suffered that might be a result 🙂In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
I paid by credit card but the amount was only £45 but I would still like it back lol0

Is that the total charge for a repair to the actual wheel plus the new tyre?INAMESS said:I paid by credit card but the amount was only £45 but I would still like it back lol
Was it a new tyre or a retread or repair the old tyre?0 -
I was expecting a lot more OP, as above is that the total including a tyre? Is the tyre itself a right off?INAMESS said:I paid by credit card but the amount was only £45 but I would still like it back lolIn the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
That’s the total for repair of wheel and a tyre which they didn’t say if it was new or not but I suspect not0

£45 for a wheel repair AND a new tyre? For anything other than a wheelbarrow that sounds way to cheap to have any expectation of quality. Like Martin's penny whistle.0

What was the damage to the wheel, what did they do to fix it?0

What sort of wheel is this?INAMESS said:Hi, my car went over a pot hole the other day and damaged the wheel and tyre. So you'd never be able to claim a full refund - as you still have the tyre. You'd need to find out how much of that bill was for the tyre and how much was for the attempted repair. It's not going to be very much though - in fact that might even have thrown in the attempt for free (in which case you'd be due nothing back).INAMESS said:That’s the total for repair of wheel and a tyre which they didn’t say if it was new or not but I suspect not0 -
