PayPal credit confusion

in Credit cards
Evening all.
On the 2nd of January I made a large payment to PayPal Credit. The full amount £4800. This left my bank and showed the balance on my credit account back to zero.
On the 6th January this showed as being paid back into my bank account however the money is not there in my ‘available’ funds. Just shows it on the statement.
My PayPal credit now shows that I have £4800 on there.
Obviously this money is not back in my bank account. Is this some kind of weird back and forth thing? Where could the money possibly be?
I will contact them when I can but I work very long days and honestly their phone service is tedious.
just Wondering if anyone has had this happen before? Many thanks!

Whilst FasterPay is great many commercial payments go via much slower routes but banks know the money is "in the post" before it actually lands. Back in my call centre days we often got complaints because an order would be cancelled minutes after it had been placed but it would take up to 8 working days for the customer to get the money back. The reason was at the time card payments took 3-4 working days to clear and we arent going to be sending money back to you until we have it in our account else we could be out of pocket if there is an unidentified problem with the payment meaning we never receive the money so we request the refund today but wait the 4 days to see the cash in the account then push the money back which could take 4 days too.
Back in those days there was much more use of suspense account, basically the banks own account for money its received and can't work out where it should go. These days banks tend to be keener to reject money coming in than hold it in the suspense account. Often it was where accounts were non personal so needed a reference number (eg credit cards) or closed accounts etc
Have you checked with PayPal as to why they bounced the payment in the first instance?
