Possible mouse inside the wall in my home?

I think there is either a rat or mouse in the wall in my living room, it's running around and banging really loud. Only in the night time tho.
Spoken to landlord he will come and have a look but I don't really know what he can do as they don't make a noise in the day?

    It could be bats.
They make scratching noises inside walls at night as they leave and return from feeding.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Bats are protected - if it is bats in the wall there are legal sanctions for disturbing them so you'd need to get advice from the National Bat Helpline or your local Bat Conservation Trust (BCT).

It should be fairly easy to tell if it's bats as they'll be leaving the house each evening to feed, so you could try and identify any potential entrances and then sit outside at dusk to see them.

You personally can't, both they and their roosts are protected so you can't even just block up their exit after they have left.

A licence can be obtained in some circumstances to exclude them but if they are migratory species or its breeding season it may only be able to done at a certain time of the year.

My parents house had bats and they couldn't do anything about them and ultimately moved as a consequence. There were companies willing to "sort it out" for a notable payment. Back then the offence was a lower grade but now in principle it can result in 6 months in prison.

Mice don't make banging noises, generally - whilst you can hear them - they aren't particularly loud. Neither do bats apparently. Much more likely to be a rat. They tend to come in at night apparently and go out during the day and they do bang around. If it's a rental place then contact the landlord as you've said and hopefully they'll call out some rodent company who are usually pretty good. Finding the entry/exit point is key and then laying down some decent rodent poison. Once they've gone then sealing up the entry point.
