Landlord offered me the leasehold

    OK so you don't intend to extend the lease/s beyond 2030, so what do you think will be the benefit to you in buying the lease/s now? 



    I wouldn't be buying the lease.  It'd be given to me.  I'd become the landlord for the other properties.

    OK so you don't intend to extend the lease/s beyond 2030, so what do you think will be the benefit to you in buying the lease/s now? 



    I wouldn't be buying the lease.  It'd be given to me.  I'd become the landlord for the other properties.
    Why would your landlord just hand over the lease? Think about it... Is it because 

    a) he really likes you
    b) he wants to escape the big bill(s) that will come at the end of the lease... And which the rental income won't cover.

    Also the transfer will involve legal fees and associated costs - who is paying those?

    I think I'd have to pay legal fees but how much can a deed title transfer with a lawyer cost?  A few hundred quid?  


  • The EPC certs for the properties are both now acceptable.  The roof has been repaired.  The ground floor shop does their own maintenance - it's always been that way - in fact it'd be an upgrade on the required standard due to the nature of the business.  Therefore I don't foresee see an issue with disrepair from the freeholder.

    OK, some straight talking coming your way.... 

    Two threads on the subject, and you seem to want everyone to say "wow, that's an amazing deal, go for it", when you are the only one that thinks that. 

    So either go for it, or don't, but I don't think you're going to get the validation you're looking for.
