Car Insurance Renewal

My car insurance comes up for renewal on my birthday every year which is only a couple of days of days after I originally passed my test.

I tend to organise my renewal in advance, however this means that I cannot say that I have done as many years of driving as I will have done on the renewal date. Additionally, it means that when applying for renewal, I have to say that I am younger than I will be on the policy start date.

Will the insurance companies adjust this for the renewal date or from the date I asked for the quote?  Insurance tends to be cheaper if sorted in advance but I wonder if waiting until the last minute to claim the extra year of driving and the extra year of age would benefit me?

How many years have you been driving?  There comes a point when these details have zero effect on your quotes.

Is it not your date of birth you give rather than your age?

For that part yes, insurers are clever enough to work out your age at inception, but for the original part about how long they've held their driving licence few ask when the test was passed but instead ask how long a full licence has been held.

At the start date of the new policy it will be 7 years. I will be turning 25 so I’m still on the cusp of the young driver age range which is why I’m wondering if the extra complete year of driving will help.
