Our first home and we need to replace the double glazing for 8 windows and front and back doors. First quote is £14.636. It’s an ex council semi detached two storey house and we asked for upvc. We are in Scotland not the central belt though. We were told we would be charged extra as we are not in Glasgow area. Any advice much appreciated

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0 -
I would get another quote for sure. Try to find an independent, not a big company.0

The big companies quote high and then give foney discounts. Go for a local independent firm and see what they say.0

The raw materials used in the manufacture ( uPVC, glass etc ) have increased significantly in price post Covid, as has the cost of labour. Having said that the OPs quote does look a bit toppy.MouldyOldDough said:russetred said:Our first home and we need to replace the double glazing for 8 windows and front and back doors. OP - The most important item is that they are installed properly and well. The windows and doors themselves will almost certainly be OK, whoever you buy from. There are well established quality standards in the industry, and it is not an area where cheap imports from China etc are a factor.
So a local company with a good reputation is worth paying a bit more for.0
