Courtesy Car not insured for named learner driver

We are with Hastings Direct and were bumped from behind.
We have been offered a courtesy car from Enterprise who Hastings use while ours is fixed, but Enterprise will not allow a learner driver to use their cars even though the Hastings policy is that the same people will be insured on the courtesy car.
Our learner driver has a test in a month or so so can't be without access to a car for the couple of weeks that it might take to repair the car.
We've raised a complaint with Hastings but does anyone have any suggestions for next steps.

You are subject to the hirer's terms and if that is no learners then that's that.
I very much doubt Hastings will find an alternative hire vehicle that will allow driving tuition, you can ask but if they only have an arrangement with Enterprise then you are out of luck.
You will need to make alternative arrangements for the learner to get further practice or tuition and if they planned to use the damaged vehicle for their test keep all your fingers crossed it will be ready in time.

If the terms and conditions with Hastings specifically guarantee a courtesy car that can be used by all drivers on the policy, that is what they need to deliver so I would speak to them and escalate your complaint.
There are lots of places that hire cars for learners - if Hastings wont use them for the courtesy car, maybe you could come to an arrangement about them covering costs for hourly hire of a dual control car as and when needed?0 -
First of all is this enterprise providing a vehicle under the terms of your policy? What does the terms of your policy say if that is the case? Certainly with some that offer this your policy is effectively transferred to the hire car for the duration of the hire so anyone eligible under your policy can drive it.pramsay13 said:We are with Hastings Direct and were bumped from behind.

You state it was a non-fault accident therefore this also opens up the possibility that its a credit hire car not provided under the terms of your policy but Hastings sold passed your details to Enterprise to see if they would help you on a credit basis. In this scenario Enterprise' insurance covers the vehicle and therefore it's o you their terms that apply. In this scenario you have no valid complaint to Hastings
Do you actually have the enterprise vehicle yet? If you dont you may want to contact the third party insurer who probably will be more than happy to provide a hire car a learner can use as long as they've completed their indemnity and liability queries.0 -
Looking at Hastings web site a replacement car is provided on at fault accidents, so this is almost certainly in the hands of an accident management company. As already stated you may be better off going though the third party’s insurers who will be keen to avoid the costs associated with these very expensive companies.0
