Got given a Neutral for a used electronic item being in a different box.

Can hardly believe the buyer did this! I took such great care in wrapping an electronic item well (as I always do anyway) but wrapped in bubble wrap, then put into a box for extra protection then large bubble wrap around the box and thick cardboard around this then into a postage bag. I scored through the photo of the item that was originally in the box to save confusion. I used the box to give the item extra protection during transit instead of just using bubble wrap. I was sad to receive a Neutral as feedback is precious and I only had Positives until now. The buyer has been with EBay for a few years but very little feedback. I think some buyers don't realise how precious feedback is to some of us. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them? I've been with EBay for 20 years and this is a first for me.

Was there a comment with the feedback? You could ask ebay to remove it if there is no adequate reason for it.

I'm always surprised that I can still be surprised by some things customers do. A recent one was a product review that essentially outed the customer as being a blithering idiot, they often do. 

I think the key is to not be precious about feedback, it's increasingly irrelevant anyway. That's not to say you can't try and get it removed. I had a relatively justified negative a while ago that was removed.

A neutral won't affect your score.  The main thing is what they said, and any buyer who cares about feedback will check it to see.  Depending on what they did say you might be able to follow up with something about being glad the extra packaging made sure it arrived safely (or something)

But either way, don't worry!  A neutral has no impact.

Ignore feedback, they're just part of life.

The most annoying things are returns where you end up paying postage, lost items, scams, time-wasters.. 

Neutral is just neutral, life goes on, you have the money.

Yes he said:  The item was in a Russel Hobbs salt &pepper grinder box. Box look new! I assume it was a mistake and they have send me wrong item and I was going to send it back! all sender has to write on box was ignore box your item is inside. (copied from his feedback so his wording.

So in effect, I got a neutral for not writing what was in the box even through I had penned a couple of squiggles through the picture on the box.

Thanks. Yes I suppose we should never fail to be surprised by some people. I do like the fact that I don't get negatives or neutrals as it does give prospective buyers a good idea of what  kind of seller I am but maybe I shouldn't be so precious about it right enough. To some effect though it can still be important as one buyer recently had given 38 Negatives out of 200 purchases (not to me thankfully). Just gives people an idea of what buyers are like.

I have asked for a feedback revision but I think that goes back to the buyer so we'll see what happens although he doesn't do much on EBay so he might never read it.

It's very annoying. Someone else here had the same sort of issue a few years ago. As I recall they had a INR raised because the buyer had not looked inside the box as it said the contents were something else too.

Since then I've only used plain boxes and packets.

I guess we can conclude that the buyer was as thick as pig dung, and be thankful we aren't as stupid. Not a lot you can do.

Just as well you didn't put it in a cake box, think of the damages you would have to pay for fixing their broken teeth after them trying to bite into it ! 

I got a neutral for slow delivery even though I despatched within a few hours of payment.  It was a heavy item so postage prices differed considerably and I gave a choice.  They obviously chose the cheapest and complained the delivery was slow - they lived in an isolated farm cottage somewhere in the Yorks moors where the likes of Yodel deliver when they can be bothered rather than the more reliable RM probably daily service.

Some people are just extra stupid.  I wouldn't worry about the feedback.  If I'm honest, I've bought about 20 things off private sellers in the past and never looked at the feedback, apart from the %score sometimes
