Car insurance & House Insurance Claim Question
Hello
Yesterday a car skidded into my fence causing damage to the fence and my car
A chunk of the fence has been damaged which need replacing as well as causing dent on the car caused by the fence falling towards my car.
I have informed my car insurance company about this incident as well as informing the house insurance under my parents policy about the the damage to the fence.
After reading through the terms and condition of the house insurance policy it did not cover anthing relating to damage to fences by third party.
My question is that my parents house insurance cant make a claim against driver who cause damage to the fence.
If not would my car insurance company be able to help with cost of repairing/replacing part of the fence.
Thanks for your help

no, the fence is not insured by your car insurance company.0

Sounds like you need to claim from the driver's insurance yourself. Do your parents have legal cover with any policies that could help?0

This exact thing happened to my partner, caused by a drunk driver who was luckily insured on the car he drove. The drivers car insurance paid out for both garden wall repair and repair to her car. It took her ages to find out because both her car and house insurers were trying to charge her the excess for claiming. But in the end the Police officer dealing with the case told her that the drivers insurance should pay. And they did, eventually after demading two quotes which they said were too high, so they sent their own assessor who then said it would cost more than the previous two quotes0

Home insurance usually covers damage by vehicles. The definition of buildings usually includes fences.jay241 said:HelloYesterday a car skidded into my fence causing damage to the fence and my carA chunk of the fence has been damaged which need replacing as well as causing dent on the car caused by the fence falling towards my car.I have informed my car insurance company about this incident as well as informing the house insurance under my parents policy about the the damage to the fence. After reading through the terms and condition of the house insurance policy it did not cover anthing relating to damage to fences by third party. My question is that my parents house insurance cant make a claim against driver who cause damage to the fence. If not would my car insurance company be able to help with cost of repairing/replacing part of the fence. Thanks for your help0 -
Damage to fences is often excluded from cover for storm damage or subsidence, but I have yet to find a policy which excludes it from cover for collision with a vehicle.XRS200 said:

If the OP could tell us who the insurer is we can check whether his understanding of the policy is correct.0 -
Do you have a link to the policybook?jay241 said:After reading through the terms and condition of the house insurance policy it did not cover anthing relating to damage to fences by third party.
Certainly some do limit cover provided to fences and exclude them from Storm cover etc unless there is also damage to the main building etc but it would be more unusual to exclude it from the collision section. That said, what's their excess and have you any idea of the cost of the repair? It could well be below or close to the excess anyway depending on the extent of the damage0
