Charged £59.99 by Apple app (YouCam), refused refund

I signed up to the free trial for 7 days and was charged £59.99 for the yearly subscription. I requested refund the same day but it has been refused. I have raised this with my bank. Let’s see if they do anything. It was debit charge.
Surely there’s some consumer rights around this? Like 14 days no questions asked refund provided type. Please can someone help. I am unemployed and need the £59.99. I was really unwell to keep track of the free trial period.

You might need to clarify whether you cancelled the trial in time, as you appear to have left it past the trial period if I am reading this bit correctly 'I was really unwell to keep track of the free trial period.'.Ceenthia said:I signed up to the free trial for 7 days and was charged £59.99 for the yearly subscription. Guessing this is the YouCam Makeup, the only one I could see with a £59.99 subscription?
Looking on the signup screen there is a toggle for "enable 7 day free trial" which is defaulted as off. Did you remember to turn it on before proceeding?
The company behind the app is based in Taiwan, your consumer rights would there be whatever overseas persons to a Taiwanese company is and likely enforcement would be made there too.
Its technically an in app purchase, given how its been setup, which is why you dont get the standard apple screens appearing.
Its not clear if the issues is you went beyond the 7 days or never got the 7 days?1 -
Assuming you didn't not cancel as per the T&Cs you agreed to, I'm afraid you have no additional consumer rights, so are reliant on goodwill from the vendor.
If you didn't use the services after the 7 day free trial, that might sway some vendors, but i doubt they'll change their mind.
How did you raise it with your bank? A chargeback?0 -
Strictly speaking, any payment from a bank account is a debit charge, but was it a direct debit, a debit card payment, a continuous payment authority, or something else?Ceenthia said:I have raised this with my bank. Let’s see if they do anything. It was debit charge.0 -
If Op has not cancelled in time, then any chargeback could be rejected. Guessing this will be a CPA via Apple Pay.Life in the slow lane1
