Morning everyone
It poured with rain last night and so the snow has all gone this morning, it didn't feel quite as cold when I let the cats out so hopefully it won't be slippery.
Gers - that's sad news about Florenceems husband, thanks for sharing it.
Going back to work yesterday was fine, lots of excitement over what Santa had brought them. I've decided to cut back on my hours and start having a Monday afternoon off, so I can help mam get her shopping or do some housework. So I'll just work 3 afternoons, after the next couple of weeks. I spoke to a very helpful duty manager at adult social care yesterday who has asked for 15 minutes to be added to dads' lunchtime call, to make sure they have some lunch and food is prepared for teatime. She explained that the only way to get mam help with her shopping, is for her to be assessed too, which I know she will refuse to do, hence my work decision.
I've also arranged for an alarm system to be fitted this afternoon.
Right, I must get moving, I'll go down to mam and dads this morning an then for some shopping.
Hope your new job goes well RedRuby and that everyone has a good day x12 -
Thanks Wicked Lady ,I’ve separated out anything I can see is gold / silver ,
a lot of this is old pens, watches etc some obviously never used and in original boxes , the odd piece might be worth a little but overall not much I should think
Trying to reduce stuff so my DS has less to sort ,(Don’t worry Mum ,I’ll just get a skip !) suspect he wasn’t joking
if they’ll buy me a meal or two out with friends ,that would be better than just getting tossed into his skip
will ponder on !11 -
@Suffolksue Re cash cow. I've just looked on Trust Pilot and they have good reviews but I've not used them myself. I took some old gold and silver to my local Clay Brooks jewellers about 6 months ago and was very happy with what they were happy to give me for it so you might want to try a local jewellers to you too8

Morning all, the snow vanished quite quickly yesterday when it started raining and we have another frost this morning. I cleaned the windows yesterday, then got sidetracked by sorting out related window gubbins, cleaning light switches, you know how you do..Didn't get much else done but the meatballs were made and there are enough for tonight as well, the addition of bread soaked in milk made for some very soft and juciy meatballs, three stars, recommend...I did put oil in the chainsaw and am intending on doing gardening jobs today. Didn't get to bed until three last night though so a late start is forecast
And the tree is still up
Actually, I could kill two birds if I took it down and chopped it up! Gers, thanks for sharing that. I look at the decluttering thread but I can't keep up with it, poor Florence, she was having a tough time with him. Good to know Lionel has accepted the help and waggy finger too. Ruby, good luck today! And ahh, I see, makes perfect sense. SSue, what's the cow site? and yes...being the recipient of my parents hoarding tendencies [ which we still have not got rid of] I would indeed be getting a skip or a house clearance firm if it was up to me. I don't want the hassle, the emotional trainwreck or the guilt of being responsible for things they thought enough of to keep, [even if some of it is pieces of string in a drawer as I seem to remember someone had here
Best to be the best parent and not burden kids with that. dp1, hopefully you can persuade your mum to accept some help too without knackering yourself in the process. Take care all, keep warm! Allie, hope you're nice and warm in your van!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi11 -
Morning all, it's dry and +3 this morning after all the heavy rain which started at tea time yesterday. Apparently we have a storm coming in tomorrow so I'm hoping that we can get our appointments out of the way before it hits.
Yesterday Mr Fix It's appointment went as predicted and he didn't get seen till almost 6 o'clock even though there wasn't anyone waiting for his nurse. He asked if there was a problem and then suddenly she was available 😠. Anyway that's all done for another 3 months.
I sorted out both freezers yesterday and made a list, there's a lot of leftover bits in them which I need to use up. I found 2 lots of beef soup to have for our lunch and some gammon leftovers which I'll make into rissoles for our tea with wedgies. I have nothing else planned although I want to watch "inside the factory" episode from last night as it was from the biscuit factory where GNephew works, maybe we can see him in the background, we can't miss him he's such a big lad !
I too remember Florenceem, she was devoted to her DH and she will miss him terribly, hugs.
RedRuby good luck with your new "man "
Right better get off my backside and put the dw on then wipe down the kitchen before I make another mess 😁
Take care all, hugs to the poorly, sad and anyone going through the mill at present with family stuff.

Morning all, we are still suffering with this blasted virus, nearly 2 weeks now.We went to a pharmacy yesterday asking for advice and got a big bottle of medicine alongside stocking up on the usual honey & lemon etc. I took Lennydog up the road this morning, the snow has gone but the pavements are treacherous, even he was sliding about.Eventually got a delivery for tonight from Oc. Tried all the sm and all booked up,this was me trying on Sunday. Been using up some freezer stocks. No bad thing!Sending my condolences to @Florenceem, that's very sad.Take care on those slippery roads.

Morning everyone just got in from a cleaning job hubby gave me a lift there and back and I popped into lidl and got some butter and a crusty roll to have with my soup at lunch time it’s very slippery out there but bright we have been forcast snow on and off all week but I think it’s missed us I hope it stays that way . I don’t intend to leave the house now until Friday morning Ive pulled a few bits out of the freezer that have been in to long and I’m going to have a baking day tomorrow not to much or it will have to go back in the freezer in it’s larger size then I’m defeating the object just a couple of quiches and some scones I think. Taff you be careful with that chainsaw Ruby i hope it all goes well with your new man DP1 you have got a lot to cope with at the moment I hope the assessment sorts some help out for you’re parents Suffolk sue my family is just going to put me in a skip with all my stuff and I don’t think they are joking. Thinking of all the poorlies hugs to those that need them have a good day everyone whatever you are doing12

Morning all, thanks for today's thread @Gers. Yesterday was cloudy and it didn't feel quite as bitterly cold as the last few days (still cold though); we had some rain overnight and now have icy pavements. I've already seen people slip/sliding around and although I wasn't planning on going anywhere today, if I had been, I think I would have cancelled - don't want any falls/broken bones at my age. Sunny this morning, cloudy later on, sleet for tomorrow and Friday.
DS and his DP came for a visit yesterday morning and we finally exchanged Xmas gifts and lots of catching up, so much so it was lunchtime before they left. They've had a wonderful holiday, lots of photos still to look at, and I have one to go on my photo wall when I find a suitable frame.
No sooner had they left than my grocery delivery arrived, one sub (acceptable) and one item to return to my local store, I think I have 30 days to do that. I'd ordered a microwave rice steamer but it's too tall to fit in my microwave. My own fault, I didn't measure first.
I've definitely ordered more than I originally intended but shouldn't need any shopping for at least a month!
Today I'll be using some extra lean beef steak for a SC casserole and have other stuff to portion and freeze. There is space in the freezer (I donated two packs of braised red cabbage to DS) but I think I'll still need to play freezer tetris to get everything in.
My new kettle should be delivered this afternoon; if I'm happy with it I'll be trying to find a recycling point for the old one.
Very sad news about Florenceem's husband, my thoughts and condolences are with her. I hope she gets as much help and support as she's given others.
@Ruby - I hope all goes well today with your new man.
@Gers - Glad to hear Lionel has new medication and has responded to the waggy finger!
@dp1 - Good decision, dropping Monday afternoons will give you that bit more time and good also to have an extra 15 mins added on to the care worker's lunchtime call for your Dad. I really hope your Mam will eventually change her mind about having an assessment for herself, although I get the feeling it could be an uphill struggle.
@Suffolksue - I've done a heck of a lot of clearing out over the last couple of years, partly for my own benefit but mainly because I want to make it as easy as possible for my DS when I depart. I can't even remember half of what's gone so it goes to prove it wasn't needed or wanted - and I'm still finding stuff!
Please take care if you're out and about today and watch out for the ice. I'm wishing swift recoveries for the poorly ones, if you're sad, lonely or struggling with life then help yourself to a hug or two if you need one. Take care, stay safe. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.12 -
Morning ( just) from a sunny but very soggy Mehefinland
heavy overnight rain , like everyone else I suspect. Wind is chuffing up a bit now so I reckon its the next lot feeling it's feet.
Just back from taking one of my oldest friends and his little dog to the pet crematoria. It is a lovely spot out in the country and about an hour's journey from here. Fortunately the Gods of the M4 were kind to me ( nanny will know all about them!) and we had a troublefree trip both ways. The lovely lady at the crem said they were able to deliver the ashes back to his vet, so that saves another trip. May even be as soon as tomorrow! He still has the full sister to keep him on his toes though, but I think at 86 he is finding it harder.
Anyway, don't dust the hats off yet, but I've got a date this arvo. I 'may' bring you lot up to speed tomorrow - will see how it goes lol. Nags will have to have an early 'in' time today - they won't mind providing there's a decent hay net waiting.
Was sad to see Florenceem's news- that poor lady has struggled with her DH's health for so long. Her posts were always so positive and supportive of him even through some pretty dark periods.
Keep warm, and upright!!
Hugs and spoons as always

Good afternoon everyone
I am late today as I've been to see my SIL and then to do a big shop just in case the weather is bad on Friday. We do have a yellow warning for snow but I think and hope we are on the edge.
I too was so sorry to hear of Florencem's loss. She was so supportive and caring for her husband, I am sure the love of her family and her SA family will be of some comfort to her.
So I am off to do a Bolognese sauce for tonight and tomorrow.
Thoughts with the sad, lonely and poorlies.
Take care x
