I looked a little closer at the bill, but in short:
Lease ended 30th Nov, she handed keys back on 30th...
No meter read could be done remember, as the unit had failed.....

the final bill from EON shows:
Actual Read on 18th March (guess they did a read once a year or once every 2years, meter is outside the flat).
Then it estimates from 18th March to 31st march.
The estimates as below, kinda act the same right upto 30th Nov, giving a total of over £600

The meter is old (2007  ACE9000 KBD) , and i dont know if there was an RTS unit in the cupboard...
The reading of the meter prior to moving in, in Jan 2024, has a number "H" meter read number which corresponds with the Day readin gbelow, along with ""1"  at the end of the reading which is believe is the rate.
She didnt use storage heaters, and didnt heat the non-vented hot water tank either, was out all day and weekends, hence minimal use.....  (averaging like £35pm in token top-ups)

Final bill states she did x2 top ups of £30 each (in Feb & March, she spent her time with us due to work pattern change), so am assuming they are looking at top-ups in Feb & March...
And the "Night" rate, from the inventory, could'nt see that reading, only a reading which was a lot higher, starting with "G" .....

I wrote to EON today on her behalf, EON said they passed it to another team to investigate. (They want £636 which includes a £30 good will gesture due to the busted meter).   I offered £35pm x8 as a final payment, although i would feel thats high (she topped up £30 almost every 4 weeks, without getting low on credit, was more a habbit thing)
Will keep u all posted with the end result.

My standing charges ammount to £25 a week for electricity .
Do you have six or seven homes??
ok ..very droll , ..standing charges £25 a month electricity .

    ** Update (not much)

    Hey all,
So in short, even though it was an old meter from 2007 , it did have a sticker on it saying "2-Rate" …..

I've contested the bill, to which a revised bill came through which reduced from £601 (8 months usage in a small 1bedroom flat with Day/Night rate for the pre-payment/token meter) , down to £546 (still showing an Estimated annual consumption of 4000kwh for day and 1000kwh for night usage for 1yr…..

i went back to EON and the "estimate" is still to high, so they revised the bill again, and sent through another bill, for £601…..

I offered to pay £450 to clear it off which amounted to say £56 per month of usage, to which EON said nah….

** in March 2025 before meter bust, i had wrong info, i said she topped up the token meter with x2 £30 top-ups… it was actual x2 £15 top up's over a 3 week period.
EON dont have any info from before that in terms of top-ups at the local shop…

EON are saying from a meter read in March 2024 (she cant prove that), to March 18th 2025 ,
She used 1358 units on the day rate, and 1993 units on the night rate.
**Note: in 2024 and upto March 2025, the only thing used through the night, was the single storage heater to charge up the bricks, fridge/freezer and any other devices that were on standby.. (Elec shower when used would fall under Day rate)…..

What i do recall doing was turning off all the fuses in the flat after the meter failed for her, and then only flipped the switches for the general house stuff back on (i left the storage heater and water tank heater fuses off, as the flat was naturally warm back then, and hot water taps werent used due to elec shower)…

So EON are estimating usage based on the previous year….
I've said i want it raised as a complaint, so i can take it to the omsbudman after 8 weeks of Deadlock.
