British Gas CAN Split Your Warm Home Discount

I'm on a PAYG smart meter and I received my Warm Home Discount of £150 onto my electricity on Friday. On Saturday afternoon I phoned British Gas to ask if some of the Warm Home Discount could be moved over to my gas meter. Said I only had £4 on my gas at the moment (which he could see) it's cold and snowing and it would really help, I was extremely polite. He said they weren't allowed to split it anymore unfortunately. I asked if there was a customer service supervisor I could talk to about it. He put me on hold for a bit, came back and said the supervisor was on lunch but would call me back in 30 mins. I knew that wasn't going to happen as the phone line was due to close in 35 minutes!

I tried again this morning. Again, I was extremely polite etc. The guy was like, yeah no problem, I can sort that out for you! He said he could split it in 2 for me and I asked he could move over £60, no problem he said. While he was doing it I was wondering if his system wasn't going to let him do it, but no, he was able to do it straight away. It was on gas meter within 30 minutes. Such a weight off my mind, as I could only afford to have the heating on for a few hours max a day, even with the current weather.

So they CAN easily move that money over. I'm assuming they don't want to as gas costs more than electricity. So if you ring up and the person you speak to won't move it over, just keep it polite and try again the next day. And keep trying, as I'm sure you'll find someone who will move it.

I suspect it has more to do with the competence of the individual  employee.
