Freebie hack with the Lidl Plus app

Just to recap...If you have the Lidl Plus app installed, you get individual coupons; preferential prices on some items; as well as rewards for monthly spend. Regarding the monthly spend, it's divided into tiers and the 1st tier is £10, which gets you a free sweet treat from the in-store bakery.

So, having spent £10 in the first few days of January 2026, I duly received the bakery coupon and claimed my free apple turnover !

One of the items I bought was in error, so I returned it to the store and was refunded without hesitation. Having subsequently logged into the app, my monthly running total was now below £10, but if I brought it over £10 again (not a difficult task) then I'd get another bakery coupon !!!

So, it looks like their system is that if you repeatedly buy something and return it, "yo-yoing" your monthly spend around the threshold, then you can claim freebies infinitely.

I'll give it maybe 3 yo-yos before you get barred.

Serious question - how do do you return stuff to Lidl (or Aldi)? There's no service desk as such and I'm not going to queue up at their famously speedy tills to try and engage the operator in the details of my return.

Do you just roam the aisles until you find a shelf stacker to engage with?

That might work for some others too. I wonder if anyone knows 🙂

Possibly only money saving if you live next to or walk to often.
If you drive to return the item that's going to cost.

This will only work if you get to just over £10, and then keep buying/returning 1 item...so will you have another lidl plus account to capture other spending? Or shop elsewhere? Or just lose out on the other tiered benefits?

Just ask any member of staff and they'll get the manager (or anyone authorised for return). Its surprisingly easy!

Yeah not sure this is worth it in the long run, maybe if you live in a city.

This is not moneysaving, it is plain tight.

Lidl does plenty of offers, including a free bakery item with every shop at least twice a year.

The best thing we find with the Lidl app is to spend up to around £249 during the month. Additional spending is done on 2 other accounts where we spend up to £50 and move on to the next account.

On the last day of the month spend on the first account. We then get the 10% off to use on a big shop at the start of the next month.

Three of us at the same address so not doing anything wrong.

I have noticed that the monthly rewards are going down in value month on month.
