Good morning
Woke up to -5 this morning, it looks like the sun is just peeping through. Snow forecast for us this afternoon.
I'm glad I did my shopping yesterday. I was very good, had a look in Morries and only came out with a pack of cooking bacon and a set of new t-towels, £5 spent. Then I went to Lids and only bought what was on my list, what an exciting life I lead.
Making a roast today, it'll either be with beef, turkey or gammon, all in the freezer and left over from Christmas.
No other plans for today. Keep warm everyone.

Morning still no snow here but sunny and bitterly cold
Its 15 years today since my beloved daughter died of breast cancer aged 37
wish I could say it gets easier but it doesn’t
her children were 7and 5 ,now 22 and 20
she’s missed so much .

Morning all from frosty Mehefinland
@Suffolksue - I really feel for you - think I may have got something in my eye.
The litter purge goes on... the farmer's wife had given me a small roll of bags she had obtained from the council so I decided to continue up the lane towards the railway bridge. Well, 3 full bags later and I had only got about a third of the way along the lane - mostly cans and bottles. When Sally Labrador was younger I used to walk that route daily and kept it reasonably clean ( a carrier bag full per week!) but since she has gone I rarely walk there. Did meet the new chap in the end house, who kindly took the bags back to a central point for me - so not a completely futile exercise. It was pleasant enough whilst the sun was out, but a bitterly cold wind eventually forced me home again. If it stays dry I might try to finish it off before Tuesday , which is collection day here.
The zip has gone this morning on my 'field' coat - it looks like the keeper on the bottom has sheared off. Last thing I want when its so cold. Will have a delve through the cupboard and see if I can find something suitable for downgrading to field use - the coats get heavily abused in my care lol.
Keep warm all, hugs and spoons as always
Mehefin aka Derek

Morning, brrrr, it's a cold one! I was going to move some gravel today but they're frozen so riddling would be a challenge. Need some milk so will probably go out or that, no idea what else is happening today, the fajita mix is still there so probably that for supper. OH seems a bit better except for the coughing. Meal out was nice yesterday, steak pie and chips and one of my favourites. One funny bit was when the girls serving brought the cake [ brought by the person with the birthday] and attempted to start singing happy birthday, but she was talking and not paying attention so they kind of petered off and slunk back to the bar...I felt for them, but the birthday girl is always talking over people so not a surprise..And that's the last of the birthdays now until March thank god...Sometimes I wonder if I'd be better off in a bothy in the wilds somewhere by myself , knitting blankets out of grass or something...Is being less sociable or tolerant an age thing or a me thing? I suppose it's not being intolerant , it's just being intolerant of drama and woe is me after you make choices that result in that [ notme, I'm good thanks but I may be one friend down
]....dp1, sounds like a lovely birthday, and a discerning foodie can start at any age
shame about your mum, but glad you've got her some potential suppport even if she's being stubborn. Gers, you have some interesting and useful neighbours
RBS have never been known for their sterling customer service either...Allie, what a good idea, looking forward to the next meal installment..enjoy the Cotswolds, but it is cold and forecast rain towards the weekend, bring a brolly. Izzy, enjoy having your family round you..SuffolkS, hugs for today...Wrap up warm everyone and take care...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi8 -

No, never leaves you. Big hug. 💕11 -
Hello all and a warm welcome to all the newbies.
I had a disturbed night as I was woken by severe pain in my hand so I had a cuppa, 2 painkillers and I put my heat pad on it at 3.45am. It's calmed down a bit but still swollen, so I'll use it tentatively.
All the decorations were taken down yesterday except the tree so that's today's job, I mustn't forget the front door wreath too, I've done that in the past too. Then all the boxes will be ready to put away upstairs till next time, we've thankfully made it through to another new year.
I found some small sausages left over from festivities in the freezer so I'll make a casserole, we might have some Idahoan mash with it.
Gers Last year like you Mr Fix it had the same problem with someone in the USA trying to use his Lloyds card and it took 2 weeks to get another. Thankfully we have another bank account that we could use. Glad it has been sorted for you but it's a pain.
Suffolksue many hugs for you today.
dp1 I hope you can get some help with your DM, it's so sad when a parent starts to decline because they have always been the immoveable rock. My Dad sadly is only eating rubbish these days, just biscuits and cake. I've tried all ways to get him to eat something substantial but failed miserably.
taff I'll come with you to the bothy, or at least next door. I'm not sure if I'm less tolerant of idiotic rude people or some people just don't care who they upset.
Have a good day, keep warm and take care if you go out.
nan xx

Morning all, thanks @Gers for today's start. Welcome @nitrousxs, pleased to 'meet' you. And many hugs @Suffolksue, today must be so difficult for you.
After last night's beautiful sunset, it's another frosty but sunny day here with below freezing temperatures - again - but no snow (as yet). Plenty of dog walkers out and about this morning and it seems as if a lot of the pooches have been treated to new winter coats; I think they could do with some little boots as well. I'm not planning on going out anywhere soon but must drag out my big winter coat for when I do; I don't think the one I usually wear will quite cut the mustard in these temperatures!
All Xmas decorations are now down and safely tucked away for another year. It still doesn't feel like back to 'normal' yet but probably that will come tomorrow. I've done a shopping list of mainly fresh stuff for the fridge and will order that today. I'm glad I don't eat as much meat these days, the prices are getting ridiculous. I am ordering some stewing beef though and will pad it out with pulses and lots of veg. Gammon from the freezer with baby potatoes and veg for today's dinner. Not sure what I'll watch on TV tonight although I quite fancy The Night Manager but will need to watch series one first otherwise I won't know what's going on. I'm sure it will be streaming somewhere.
@Gers - Good luck with the bank card admin, so frustrating. You certainly have some interesting (and helpful) neighbours, sounds like you'll soon have a working doorknob.
@TA - Maybe now would be the time to look for a new WM while the sales are on? I dread the day when mine gives up the ghost, she (yes, it's a she) has been a good friend!
@AA - Fingers crossed the weather doesn't spoil your Cotswold trip, wrap up warm.
@dp1 - Sorry to hear your DM has changed so much; I hope you do get a meeting this week with the care manager and more support.
@mehefin - Litter is one of my pet hates so well done on your litter picking efforts - though it's a shame people don't take it home or dispose of it properly in the first place.
@-taff - Glad Himself seems a bit better and you enjoyed a nice meal out. I sometimes think I'm turning into a female version of Victor Meldrew so maybe I should join you (and @nanny) in that bothy!
Have a pleasant day everyone, take care. Usual hugs for the poorly ones and anyone just down in the dumps. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Morning all
Very cold and frosty here but the sun is out so a nice but cold day, I have the bedding in the wm and will hang it out for a while later, I let the dogs out for a wee yesterday evening and the towels I hung out earlier were frozen solid 🥶 I left them out and will get them in once the sun has been on them for a while, they will smell fresh at least.
We have had 7 calls already this morning 🙄 when OH called him back it was to say there was a parcel there for him, why he couldn’t have left a message I don’t know. Better make it a big Bothy as I’m coming too!Dinner tonight will be a cottage pie, I always try to make the dogs one too without onions I have a load of potatoes that need using so will do that today.
Sending much love to Suffolksue it must be such a hard day for you xxx
Mehefin well done on the litter picking x
Have good days all and take care xx11 -
Put me down for a bothy too please. A small.one will do. I have far less patience with annoying people these days.
SUFFOLK SUE. I can only imagine what it's like to lose a daughter. My thoughts are with you x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -

You've been to my place?
Haven't quite resorted to knitting grass yet but I'm sure it's not far away! My neighbours are mostly handy though, thankfully, at least a mile away. Friendly without being friends if you understand that. I've just had another chap round who went up into the loft for me to investigate weird noises - nothing found. He was very cheerful and helpful.
