IKEA delivery - won’t help carry sofa?

We bought two sofas
from ikea and paid for delivery - they’ve missed two delivery dates so far which is majorly inconvenient but that seems to be par for the course with ikea. What’s more concerning is that they say they cannot guarantee that the driver will help carry the sofas. They only guarantee kerbside delivery and any further help is at the discretion of the driver.

I would not have bought the sofas had I known. The website mentions items over a certain weight limit will be delivered by a two person team for health and safety reasons, and that it will be delivered to the room of your choice. I pointed this out but they just said that the driver has full discretion and in the case of today’s delivery (which ended up not happening) the nominated driver was not able to help. I had a neighbour lined up to help but it’s a big ask as it’s on the second floor, and obviously he won’t always be around.
I can’t physically carry any of the sofas by myself and am at a loss as to what to do as the Ikea t&cs seem
unenforceable in practise.
unenforceable in practise.
Anyone else had this issue, and what did you do?

Be nice and make it known they will get a tip, assuming you can afford it, if they carry it in.DGDG said:We bought two sofas

They havs to leave some driver discretion in case (just as examples) a lift has broken or a customer has told porkies about how far it needs to be carried. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
my daughter had a sofa delivered (it was self assembly so lots of boxes - had to go up and down some steps then into the list -the chaps were great, no problem1

Yes, a small tip works wonders.I live in a first floor flat, The delivery man brought the new washing machine up and even took the old one down to the street. Ready for the council to collect. I offered him £10.1

How did you know that the driver was not able to help if the delivery didn't happen?Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Beware fee charging companies with similar names.2

Really depends upon the drivers OP, some are overly helpful, some want to be in and out.If they aren’t willing, a £20 note usually has magical properties. 🙂In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces2

Are IKEA aware of this ? I'm not sure but think that many delivery companies won't deliver higher than the first floor, if that.DGDG said:it’s a big ask as it’s on the second floor2 -

Cancel the order.
When a retailer said our order could not be delivered on the one day someone would be at home we told them to cancel the order.
Suddenly, the manager would arrange for the delivery on that day, which he did.1
