Hi Laura, I might have to join in your I will do a car boot chant. Its my mission too but as far as I know around here they dont start til Easter.
What is it you want to sell? If its your DD's stuff / maternity its worth signing up to NCT sales near you ( http://www.nctpregnancyandbabycare.com/home then type in your postcode). Theres loads in Feb and March, then again in Sept and Oct.

I shall be asking you for veg growing advice then as thats on my list of hings to do this year.

whats the job you applied for? I noticed you mention volunteering in a gym, which is my line of work too (well it was, havent done it in 3 years but looking to get stuck in again).

Thanks for the reminder that it's Imbolc. That would have passed me by. We will have a little bonfire in the garden too, and freshen up those month-old new years resolutions.

Good luck with the carboot sale. I'll think of you on Sunday morning (from my cosy bed)

Yes just here for two weeks but its all come back to me hoe monotonous it can be!

The job in fron of me is just an admin job. I dont want it but I kind of feel like I should go for it cos its in my mums office and I haven't worked in an age

The thing is I graduated from uni in 06. And it was real drag putting myself through uni, working and raising DD all at once, but I did it (and put myself in a lot more debt in the process) so that I could get a decent job with a good income in order to get my life back together!

But here I am still looking. I worked all summer last year to get more coaching experience that all these employers said I didn't have enough of and since sept when I left there I haven't been able to get a job.

I've been picky about the jobs I go for as I dont just want to do gym work anymore I'm too overqualified and with the single parent benefits I get its not worth me going back to work for anything less than 15k a year.

sometimes I feel guilty for being so picky but then I think 'why should I settle for secong best all the time?'

so i'm making the most of being out of work by spending time getting into gardening and spending proper quality time with DD.

Sorry to go on but I don't often get chance to vent my spleen on this subject because so many people I know don't seem to understand this.

One last thing is...I get soooo bloody tiref of people saying to me "well there's jobs going at ASDA" And I really want to smack them in the face! especially when its my grandma cos her memory is going and she says that every time i see her!!!!!!!

Not that there's anything wrong with working at asda but is that why I worked my !!!! off to study for years??? Just so I could end up on minimum wage???

Sorry to go on...i'll shut up now xxx

Still in debt but happy

I agree with you, when I graduated from uni (97), I didn't get a job straight away and ended up signing on (got a job six weeks later). The annoying **** at the job centre told me if I didn't go for the interviews they chose i'd get my money stopped. When she told me the local bakery were looking for counter staff I quickly replied "I didn't know it was compulsory to have an honours degree in chemistry to work in a cake shop". That shut her up. They left me alone after that and I got a job six weeks later. For those that have qualifications/training they should get help to find jobs in their area of expertise and for those without training/qualifications they should get help to be able to fill a vacancy that needs qualifications/training.

..........The funny thing is my first job after uni, my boss said we normally look for people with a bit more relevant experience than you have. I had the guts to say "I can't get the experience without a job, I have the qualifications if you're willing to give me that chance to prove that I can do this". .....Looking back on it very cheeky but it worked. Going back to your original point there was a girl in my year at uni who got her fees paid by the government and when she got her degree she decided not to use it and do something else. People like her made my blood boil as there's so many people out there that would like the opportunity to train but didn't get a place. Sorry rant over!!!!
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

ooh actually you've just reminded me of something. I've been meaning for ages to write some letters. I remember at uni when we were in CPD they told us while we were job hunting we should be writing letters and all sorts of time filling things like that.

So given that the government are supposed to be putting millions into tackling health inequalities and obesity etc... I'm going to spend a few of these hours i've been sitting in front of the computer to write to caroline flint..i think she's the health minister but she's also a doncaster mp.

There's Ed Milliband as well and I think someone else. But i'm basically going to say to them why cant I get a job in this field if you if are supposedly doing so much work on it??

Have put it in my diary for monday!!!

interesting stuff Laura, whats your degree in (exercise science of some sort Im guessing) and what sports have you coached? My degree is Leisure Planning and Tourism Management and then I have a diploma in personal training. Im struggling to find jobs too having grad'd in 2002 and got the diploma in 2003 (and had a 'career break to have my kids in 2004 and 2006). The only industry relevant job I have done is a fitness instructor which as you point out often pays a very low salary. Another problem I have is that Im not a strong swimmer and a lot of places (especially council facilties) want NPLQ). I agree with Unix about the - cant get a job, not got enough experience issue. im facing the fact that I may have to start at the bottom and work my way up even with a degree and diploma, and our financial difficulties.
Anyway sorry for hijacking your thread about me, but its interesteing to talk to someone else about their career when its in the same industry. Im putting my job progress on my diary thread.
