I have £1700 on one credit card which is a mixture of balance transfers until 2027 and a very small amount of purchases. It has a deal of a balance transfer of 5.9% rate over 30 months with a 0% fee.  My other credit card has a zero balance and 0% balance transfer rate with a 3.5% fee until end of 2026. I pay off around £800 per month at the moment.

I intend to purchase something at the end of this month for £3,200. If I put it on the card with the £1700 balance then transfer it to the card with no balance currently, will it move the recent £3,200 across or will it move the older £1700 across with £1500 of the new transaction and leave me paying the standard APR on the remaining £1700 with a balance on it? If so this obviously defeats the object.

Am I best putting it on the zero balance card and transferring across to the one with the £1700 on it already? Therefore having 1 balance with mainly different balance transfers.

Generally any payments, which includes transfers, will be allocated to items that have appeared on a statement first.  Once statemented the highest interest items will be paid / transferred first.

I phoned and all sorted thanks. I have to wait until my statement then the retail payments will be used first.
