UC what is a household for the purpose of savings?

My sister and father live together. My father has over £16k of savings. My sister has none. If my sister claims for UC will they make a deduction to her payment for the savings my father has?

Just to add I read the blurb on Entitled to and my interpretation was his savings would be excluded as they are not married/partner but father and daughter but it really didn't seem to be clear.https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6621582/ynab-robber-needs-help-to-execute-the-plan/p1

Savings relate to person or persons (joint claim) claiming UC. Not anyone else living in the house.Life in the slow lane2

As above... yes 'household' for UC (and some other benefit) purposes doesn't refer to bricks and mortar but surrounds relationships. I'm actually considered now to be a separate household to my estranged wife who I live with (not for much longer hopefully as I am in process to move) at the same property whereas previously we were considered of course a household. Father's savings/income wouldn't apply here."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack1

But, if you want to claim Council Tax reduction, tyourlocal authority will want to know everything about everyone who lives at the property.0

I expect my father will put the info in if there's a reduction to be had. We shall see. UC form started Sunday. Not yet submitted but some progress in the right direction at last.https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6621582/ynab-robber-needs-help-to-execute-the-plan/p1

Hopefully they have totally separate financial accounts.
I have seen a few cases where parent and daughter had lived in same house for a very long time. The daughter was disabled and the parent had all of the finances including bank accounts in their name, with the daughter having no accounts in their name.
When it came to deciding how much savings the daughters had, it was very difficult, as all of their money was all lumped together with their parents.
Hopefully this will not be the case for the OP's family members. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Hi Huckster,
Yes, they have multiple separate accounts in both namex and my little sis the daughter lived with our parents at home partly becaise of who she is. She has no diagnosed disabilities and is only being referred to MH services etc at 55 but looking back she has had issues for donkeys years but was high functioning. It was her losing her job twice that has got them both in such a pickle. Before that she was a very high earner and able to pay the very high mortgage etc until April 2024. Bad since then and I am finally being asked for help sorting.https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6621582/ynab-robber-needs-help-to-execute-the-plan/p1
