Woke to a white out this morning, minus 2 and a deep solid freeze - had to battle to get the car door open it was frozen tight. But the road wasnt bad, I think enough traffic had gone by to get it ice free by 8am. Usually Im on the road at 5:30 am - and its a skating rinkGroup was HUGE this morning - seriously huge - and there was a problem with the software so everything had to be done manually which slowed things down. There were some seriously big losses this week, one lass was 13.5lb down - in a week !!!!
By some fluke - Im back to just below top of target - yayyy. I seriously dont know how that happened but Ill take itIm going to have a good bash at it this coming week. Saturday is always off plan but I always start again on Sundays. Ive got a chicken for dinner tomorrow - a large one from Lidl for under £4 , their rooster spuds are also half price and double points. Ive still a load of veg in the garage but no leafy veg - won't kill us I suppose . I think Ive still got some frozen cauliflowerNew cook book is here and it's really very good - plant based but no flaffing - all one pot or tray and not a zillion unheard of ingredients , weekly meal plans as well as shopping lists. Im having a good read of it and will get the few bits I haven't got when I go shopping on Monday. I think I will use this more for me for lunches before I start to incorporate them in the weekly family meals0 -
I thought this comment just about summed up how we all should be eating @Longwalker. 👍🏼That's why SW isn't a quick fix diet but a Healthy Eating programme, a formula for having a balanced diet with some treats built in. To me, the jabs seem to be one of the worst forms of quick fix. I don't like the idea of just counting calories either as you could just eat junk as long as you keep the calories low.Longwalker said:Surely the only way to maintain is to keep working on eating healthily and keep exercising? To accept that a diet of high fat/sugar processed foods is just not sustainable and those foods have to be consumed as treats and not as a lifestyle
I don't blame you not going to WI this morning what with the weather and the week you've had. Hope @bubbs and @Longwalker got on OK.
You should be OK with scampi if those are the only swips consumed @Matronmidge. Obviously, there's no Speed in the meal either but just one meal won't make a big difference.
I'm enjoying the walk down the Memory Lane of foods we used to have. We ate well when I was a child. I think the fact that my mother didn't work outside the home was part of it. Almost all our food was cooked from scratch including puddings and cakes. We didn't snack between meals and had a small bag of sweets at the weekend as a treat. We drank squash or water and fizzy pop only appeared on high days and holidays. I knew hardly any fat people and the few who stood out tended to be explained as those who had 'sugar diabetes' as they called it around our way.
I think now with most women working they find ways of making meals easier. I don't begrudge them the time but turning to take aways and unhealthy ready meals is taking a huge toll on health. I was pleased when talking to my DGD at Christmas that she's into 'clean eating' which is basically cooking from scratch and avoiding UPFs. 🤞🏼the message is getting through to some at least.
Thanks for the commiserations on my gain. I'm going to just plod on with 'good when I can'. This week I'm OK until Friday lunch time. DH and I like to eat out 2/3 times a month with friends and as the cost rises I'm not going to waste money on meals I don't really enjoy. Fortunately I enjoy SW friendly food but some places don't do much especially as often chips is the only carb choice. This month we've got a couple of extra meals out with groups that delayed their Christmas meals.
It's a glorious sunny day here and bedding is out on the line. I'm going dancing tonight , taking my own snack for the supper break so today's a good SW day.😁
Today's plan-
B- HEB porridge, berries (S), banana (F), HEA milk
L- Spanish omelette (P,S,F), pickles (S)
D- some sort of salad with a few new potatoes (P,S,F)
Swips- LTL mayo 1

Hello and Happy New Year everyone. I’ve just had a catch up on the old thread and read and bookmarked this new thread.
Beanie…..I’d suggest finger food and things that can be eaten with just a fork or spoon for your mum. I’m thinking back to when I’d had my elbow replacement and could only use one arm. It was just too much effort to try and eat ‘proper’ food. To this day I prefer my soup in a cup I can drink (when I’m at home of course) Hope she’s doing ok 👍 I particularly enjoyed fish fingers for some reason….when I can usually take or leave them.
Well Christmas came and went beautifully- we travelled down to my dds and back with no traffic snarl ups…..in fact I think it’s the best journey we’ve had. It still took over 6 hours including a quick car recharge and loo stop. A great time was had, I ate and drank whatever I fancied over the whole of Christmas and New Year….and then went away for a girlie break at a W@rner place an hour or so away. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, the food was good and there was plenty. I didn’t hold back.
I’d bought food in for over Christmas, as if everyone still lived at home and the cupboards are still full of chocolates and biscuits. I suppose it’s a good that most is still in the cupboards. I think it comes from having lots of family living nearby as I was growing up, then the kids bringing friends home and it was always an open house with folk popping in and there always had to be something to offer them. I’m still of the same mindset even though there’s only myself and Dh with an occasional visit from ds. Any friends always let me know in advance but I still feel the need to have food in should I suddenly get an influx of unidentified visitors 😂
I arrived home on Wednesday from the mini break….weighed myself Thursday morning- I’d put 5lb on. It was enjoyed and expected. I was ready to get straight back to healthier eating on Thursday. I weighed this morning and 2 lb has disappeared again. I’m now 3 lb to get under my next stone bracket…..the one I’ve been chasing for months. I’m not going back to group and I can’t get my head around swipes so I’m concentrating on free foods and hex as they were. I’ve got a fairly good memory of the old syns and still have my old books so I’m doing things my way 😂🫣today I’ve had
breakfast - courgette and mushroom omelette 1 syn for butter ( I’m steering away from of spray and trying to use non upf ingredients 80%of the time)
dinner - hm leek and potato soup 30 g cheddar cheese on 2 sliced of Morrisons hm toast
tea - hm lentil dhaal and rice
I'm heading to see a Marvin Gaye tribute later so there might also be a Prosecco in the mix 👍
Here’s to a lighter 2026 for us all 👍👍January spends - £587.580 -

That's where my first ever freezer came from - it lasted years. They were much better built then I think.beanielou said:Bejams. There’s a blast from the past. I had a bejams freezer at one point!
I tried both the Iceland branches on the Island today and neither had the naan breads - disappointed as think they'd have been a nice addition to the curry tonight. They hadn't even heard of them in the High Street branch! Hi, I'm a lurker and losing weight though not actually following SW but using some of their principles and read along for inspiration. I hate the pre-filled oil sprays but bought a few of these recently and they are fab ZHIYE Oil Spray Bottle for Cooking, 500ML 2 in 1 Olive Oil Dispenser Sprayer for Kitchen Premium Clear Glass Bottle for Cooking, Air Fryer, BBQ, Salad, Black : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen . (They are also on ebay and no doubt other places.) Also M&S are selling mini pittas which are under 50kcal each and are lovely. I've been using them with curries etc. Not sure how they compare to the SW naans. 12 Small White Pittas | M&S0

Remembering the food in the fifties /sixties when I was a child .
i remember going with my mother and baby brother in the pram to ‘get his ration book ‘ !We always had Sunday Roast on a Saturday so my Father “ got the benefit of the meat “ ( my mother tended to say such things in Capital Letters ) , always beef or lamb shoulder ,then cottage pie ( called shepherds pie ) if it was beef and stew if lamb on Sunday .
Monday dinner ( always at lunch time ,we came home for lunch from school ) was always a boiled egg and slice of bread and butter ,to “give our stomachs a rest” from ‘ all the rich food from the weekend
I managed to lose 1/2 lb last week ,not sure how ,but the Christmas food is practically gone now ,
nougat etc put to one side for treats for the food bank .
onwards and downwards ( I hope )0 -
Afternoon all 😁
Well done to all the losers 👏👏
I lost 1lb so back in bottom half of target bubble.
Maman my Mum made everything too, just not bread, all our clothes, coats etc and even my Dad's suit for my older sister's wedding. She always worked part time, but had to factor in that catching the bus from the village to town .
LW we always had fresh veg ad Dad grew it all in the garden and had 2 greenhouses for salad things, yes Marrow 🤣 we used to be sitting on back door step podding peas and smelly broad beans, if Mum needed something for tea she would say can you go and pick me ....... whataever she needed to my dad.
My first freezer came from Bejam, Mum worked there for donkeys years and when it went over to Iceland carried on working there and retired from there.
Was really icy here this morning! There was even someone standing in the car park at group warning everyone as was so slippy.
