is it worth trying to sell used DVD/ CD cases on eBay?

Due to lack of space, I recently replaced my CD jewel cases with plastic wallets and most of my DVD cases with plastic folders in ring binders. The amount of shelf space saved is phenomenal but now the spare room floor is covered with the old cases! A friend suggested I list them on eBay but is it worth it? I have hundreds of these cases - no one will want them as a job lot & it seems a lot of effort for little return if I list them, say, 10 at a time. If I decide to simply bin the lot, I have to physically take them to the tip (they are not 'household waste') and as I don't drive, this option is also problematic!
Has anyone here had a similar issue? Any suggestions as to other options I could consider?

Always worth checking out sold listings on eBay to see if there is a market. However I suspect you couldn’t sell them cheap enough to attract a buyer, with buyers having to factor in around £3 postage and a buyers premium.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. People are trying to sell them , several lots unsold even those where the sellers would have made a loss due to the wrong amount of postage being charged

although a 100 sold here actually sold, but would have netted seller less than £5 due to the cost of postage.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks soolin - that just about sums it up really, doesn't it? Looks like several trips to the tip in the new year!0

If feasible maybe you could advertise them for free on Facebook marketplace, local Facebook groups, Olio, maybe even Gumtree?
Or depending on where you live, maybe leaving them outside with a sign 'free empty cases, please help yourself'?
[ - The question marks are to indicate that I don't know whether any of those are feasible for you, not indicating that they are questions expecting a response.]
(In the past a library might even have taken them to replace any damaged cases, but maybe not now. Our local library didn't even want thin cardboard for their children's craft activities in the school holidays.)1 -
Good idea - even if it only reduces the pile that need to be taken to the tip, it would help.Spoonie_Turtle said:If feasible maybe you could advertise them for free on Facebook marketplace, local Facebook groups, Olio, maybe even Gumtree?

I don't think I would bother. Playstation 1-2 boxes can still sell, and Xbox can too, but it's mainly resellers that buy them. VHS cases sell ok because they're good for shipping stuff in.1

I've given a load away through the olio app, or free cycle/Facebook groups. I did have someone collect a bagful and then saw them waiting at the bus stop down the road so if you live in a fairly built up area people do travel to collect.Lady_Antonia said:Thanks soolin - that just about sums it up really, doesn't it? I know you're trying to re-home the cases, but just leaving them outside (note or no note) isn't really disposing of them properly.0 -
I don’t think it was suggested that they just be left abandoned. It is very common where I live in a big town to leave things at the end of the drive, or edge of front garden with a note to help yourself. I’ve moved on quite a few things that way, large toys, household items, even some handbags, in fact if it stays dry I’ll be doing the same again next week as my charity shops rarely take donations now.Emmia said:

I’ve also taken acquired a few things this way, a lovely little desk that just fits in the hobby room, a tool trolley and several large garden toys, plus all manner of plants, indoor type and outdoor.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I live in London and the same thing happens, our council has fined people for flytipping for doing just this.soolin said:
