Rear wheel smacked

2

Comments

  • Depends on what age of Passat, and possibly also spec.
Some have a simple torque-arm rear suspension which will need replacing wholesale.
Some have multi-link rear suspension, and it might be a single component or it might be the entire subframe that's damaged.

It's not warranty. Collisions are never covered under those.

As well as the suspension damage maybe you have also broken the ABS reluctor ring or sensor which could account for some of the dash lights.

My Partner had a relatively minor bump, but because they were unable to track it to perfect they wrong it off, £12K payout, minor wing damage and door scrape. Car was back on the road.

Really need it into a garage for an estimate, you might need to claim off your insurance.

Ive done some digging and found mine has - "steel rear axle subframe crossmember (beam) designed for an independent multi-link suspension system".

I am not clued up with all this, only the basics - is this good or bad?
    :s

Ive called a few garages today and im looking 2-3 weeks for them to look, I cant just get it somewhere quick either as needs towing.

I will try and get it in somewhere to be looked at, but my problem is work and I need a car, so I may need to cut my loses if im looking 2 or 3 weeks to get it in just to be told whats happening.

A way to see the new year out on  :|

It really needs somebody to have a look. It might just be a single link that's bent. It might be a couple. It might be the entire subframe...

I have managed to get RAC to come and have a look in a few days time, hopefully they will be able to give me some idea? Of damage caused and likely resolution  :#
  • Why not try the simplest thing first before getting in a big panic ??
Put the spare wheel on & see what happens ??

Take a few photos, including underneath and post them on here?

They've already said the wheel is not pointing in the right direction.  Putting another wheel on isn't going to make a difference... sounds like it looks like this...

And Turn the flash on when taking them, and photo from in front and behind pointing towards the bottom of the wheel hub.
