VW up won't start
2015 automatic
I used it the other day with no problems. Today I went to use it and all I get is a clicking sound. Nothing like it's trying to turn things over like with other cars when the battery is mostly dead. The lights/radio came on but not the engine.
Now it's probably the coldest day so far this winter - at 1 pm there was still frost on the windscreen.
I'm hoping it's not something major because it's a lovely little runner for me and I hate driving my OH's monster SUV. If it's just a case of letting it warm up and trying again then great. Or let it warm up enough so I can get it to the local Halfords, almost as great.
But any comforting thoughts would be appreciated.

A push/bump start will get you to a garage. Don't stall it though!1

Could be battery or alternator. If you have a battery charger worth trying to charge battery, otherwise jump or bump start it and drive to a garage where they can test battery and charging circuit1

Sounds like the cold has killed it then I suppose!
Hmm. No starter cables and I don't think my roadside assistance includes home calls. I suspect my neighbour might be able to help though so that might be where I start - I was going to offer them the use of our trash bin as it's nearly empty due to us being on holiday so that might be considered a fair exchange!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I agree with the above, cold weather has killed you battery.
If you haven't been driving around with the battery/alternator warning light on then it's probably not a charging issue.
It is unlikely as you still had dashboard lights and the click of death but check if an internal light has been left on and if you have a boot light then make sure that it is closing properly and the light goes out, mobile phone video recording has its uses.1 -
SIL had similar problem with his car on Christmas Day. He was able to check whether it was the battery not charging (so probably alternator) or the battery itself had died.
Fortunately he had home start so RAC came out and brought him a new battery.
Hopefully, your neighbour will have the equipment to check it out for you. 🤞1
