No starter cables and I don't think my roadside assistance includes home calls.
Some will still come to you, for a fee.

For about £10 a plug in voltage meter is well worth having in any car.
We have one and the other week I was in a car park, car next to us bonnet up, wouldn't turn over, plugged it in and reading was just over 11v, no way enough to turn it over.1 -
I just replaced a battery on someone's 2016 vauxhall that had expired due to the cold. It had done really well it was the original battery. Usual solenoid click on that too. Got pretty cold doing it and didn't even get an offer of bin space %-)1

Why would you take it to Halfords? Wouldn't you prefer to have it fixed?3

Just be aware the you can't use jump leads with many modern cars.

How modern? would there be a warning sticker or somesuch? My 2015 hatchback's still on it's original battery and it's getting chilly out there....greyteam1959 said:Just be aware the you can't use jump leads with many modern cars.

Halfords have been very good at sorting things easily that the dealership wanted thousands for. Might just be that the local one is good?Ibrahim5 said:Why would you take it to Halfords? Wouldn't you prefer to have it fixed?

Strong hybrids, plug in hybrids, and BEVs cannot be used as donors. They don't use starter batteries (no need, no starter motor) and attempting to start another car with them is likely to result in a big bill.flaneurs_lobster said:

That chimes, a local small (5-6 outlet) chain of garages was consumed by the Halfords behemoth a few years ago. They still have a good rep locally.Brie said:

I carry a booster pack so I can jump my own car.
The pack must have a booster button to override the lack of any voltage in a dead battery.
This would do for £36

I have a Gooloo GT4000 it’s a beast, jumps cars 15-20 times on a single charge.
Now they do a GT6000 but pricey.
My battery is 9 years 3 months old, AGM so expensive to replace.
Not failed yet, carry the booster just in case.
