"Where is the car kept during the day"
Wife will soon be starting a new job. She's talking about walking to work but I think she'll be taking the car. Certainly during the colder darker months. During summer then yeah she'll most likely walk. Which presents a bit of an issue....
On days where the car isn't being used, it'll be on our drive at home or if I take it to work then it'll be in works car park or on what I suppose could be referred to as a works driveway.
Then there's the days my wife will take it to her work - where it'll be parked roadside.
And as I don't trust insurance companies, I imagine if someone wallops you or it gets stolen from - your drive, but your insurance says roadside through the day (or vice versa) then they'll say - your policy was wrong we're not paying up.
But then who realistically phones up their insurance every time they're parking it somewhere different to their policy??!
Hi, Mr. Admiral? Yeah I'm stopping overnight somewhere for a day so I'd like to let you know that my overnight parking is changing for 1 day. Oh that'll be £25 'admin fee' & then another £25 the next day to change it back? No problem.

Put it down as at work/works car park during the day.
They know where you live, so if anything happens at home at anytime, you/your wife could be just on a day off.
Even fussy insurance companies realise you don't spend all your time at work, you do come home occasionally.

If she will be using it for work for a substantial period she should say that rather than complicate thingsB0bbyEwing said:This section of the insurance quote. Not actually sure what to select tbh.

Just ran the quote & it actually makes minimal difference saying on the driveway at home vs roadside at work.
Just to be clear here, I'm not asking in a trying to get out of anything way, I'm asking because I don't trust insurance companies. I think they move the goalposts probably as much as my employer does, which is whenever it suits. What's ok on a Monday isn't on a Tuesday & all that lark.
I'll select roadside at work & then at least that way it covers wife for her work use & also me for the occasions I'll use it.1 -
No I don't blame you, I wouldn't trust them either hence why I would say it's parked at work

You’re not overthinking it. Lots of people get confused by that question. Most insurers just want to know the usual overnight parking location. If the car is normally kept on your drive at night, that’s what I’d select. Parking at work or roadside during the day is generally expected and doesn’t need updating every time. As long as the main overnight location is correct, insurers are usually fine with normal day-to-day variation.

*** Parking at work or roadside during the day is generally expected and doesn’t need updating every time.***It also indicates the vehicle is used for commuting which needs to be declared.0

@B0bbyEwing - Errrr.... perhaps this is a bit of a radical idea, but if you are that worried, why don't you ring the insurance comany and ask them what answer you should give?2

Using your car for travelling to work is “commuting” for insurance purposes, so it is likely the car is going to be parked at work.
Roadside parking will more risk than a private work car park.0 -
I had this discussion at work recently, I work in a care home that is coming to the end of major renovations, sometimes I couldn’t park in the works car park due to either work in the drive/car park or the sheer amount of tradesmen and their vans, sometimes I was able to park in the road opposite, but occasionally had to park further away, my insurance states that, during the day, Monday to Friday, I park in a works car park and wondered what would happen if I had to claim on my insurance for some incident or other, if the insurance company refused the claim because you’d parked elsewhere you could argue that you couldn’t just go home because you cannot park at work.0

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... Perhaps this is a radical suggestion but maybe phoning every single company on a price comparison website would take forever & a day & that asking on a forum that's given sound advice in the past would have some people who may actually know the answer.Okell said:@B0bbyEwing - Errrr.... perhaps this is a bit of a radical idea, but if you are that worried, why don't you ring the insurance comany and ask them what answer you should give?

Although my dummy run on a comparison website showed barely any difference in price. Pence.
I don't trust insurance companies because I've suffered their nonsense in the past.Alanp said:I had this discussion at work recently, I work in a care home that is coming to the end of major renovations, sometimes I couldn’t park in the works car park due to either work in the drive/car park or the sheer amount of tradesmen and their vans, sometimes I was able to park in the road opposite, but occasionally had to park further away, my insurance states that, during the day, Monday to Friday, I park in a works car park and wondered what would happen if I had to claim on my insurance for some incident or other, if the insurance company refused the claim because you’d parked elsewhere you could argue that you couldn’t just go home because you cannot park at work.
I once was overtaking a driver on a long straight & this driver swerved in to me, tried to run me off the road.
Obviously you'll say that's highly unlikely & it is but it happened & I'm not bothering to spend time trying to convince people. They'll either believe me or they won't. Point is....
So the end result was the insurance paid out in favour of that guy. Reason being - I was overtaking.
I asked how on earth I had his tyre marks all over my rear wheels then since my rear wheels don't turn & his front wheels do.
Them - you were overtaking so you're at fault.
Me - no problem, first guy that overtakes me tonight I'm going to ram them off the road & you're saying it'll be their fault because they're overtaking me & it won't be my fault for being a dangerous driver.
Them - we understand your frustration.
Me - no, you couldn't give a beep about my frustration.
Obviously I didn't say beep.2
