Royal Mail Lying about collections

Our local Parcel Office only opens part time and as a result often don't bother to collect parcels as arranged, which is fine, but they shouldn't lie! EG

"Unfortunately, we couldn’t collect due to the following reasons:

YA4866??????? - The parcel wasn't available when we called."
Is a stone cold lie! The parcel has been right outside my front door since 7:30 for the world to see and they just sent the update at 12:30. This happens quite a lot but I wish they would just say. Unfortunately we didn't collect your parcel because we couldn't be fkn bothered. Might try again tomorrow.... If we can be ar$ed

My. Normal  poster collects  parcels on their delivery round.

if it is a large parcel she comes back with her van at the end of the round.

They now charge for collection of items now and it's only 30p but was free for a while.

In the area i live RM are woefully bad.
I know a couple of the posties that cover this town, specifically my region, and their working experience is always negative.
There are various factors involved in the poor service offered and none of them improve.
For the past 18 months there are periods where we only get one delivery per week.
Given the choice RM are the last couriers i select from a list.

Collection is still free. I sent 3 parcels using Royal Mail's Collect service before Christmas and the 30p charge was for them printing the postage labels for me as I don't have a printer. It was well worth the 30p charge anyway because a round-trip to a Post Office would have cost me much more in taxi fares. I was given a time slot of when collection would be made and my outstanding regular Postie arrived at his usual time (I'm near the end of his round) and, spotting the small pile of stamped Christmas cards on the hall table, offered to take those, too, which saved me a trip to the Post box. My 3 parcels all arrived safely within 24 hours. I can't fault Royal Mail in my area.
  • I sent a parcel today and the collection charge was 30p. I printed the label myself.
It was booked for collection on Saturday (next available date after the Public Holidays ) but postie happily took it today as it was ready when she delivered our mail.
Excellent service. I can’t fault them.

Collection is no longer free and hasn’t been for about the past year. It’s 30p per parcel irrespective of whether they print the label or not. Unless it is through eBay simple delivery in which case it does still seem to be free.
