Insurance Renewal Quote Claims Declaration

(I posted this to the Motoring board by mistake first but I think it is better suited here)
Hi, I am just in the process of getting quotes to renew my car insurance. In December 2024 we had a thankfully relatively minor accident and had to make a claim for the car to be repaired (the value of the claim was 5.5k). All was settled and is fine.
It was my car and the policy is in my name but my partner (a named driver on the policy) was driving at the time as we were sharing a 300 mile trip. My partner has her own car and insurance and I am a named driver on her car.
When I fill in price comparison websites do I need to declare it as a claim against myself (as it was my policy), my partner (as she was driving) or do I need to declare it as a claim against both of us. In which case it might cause confusion as the insurance companies may think that it is 2 separate claims.
I also had a glass claim (stone chip cracked windscreen in line of vision) back in 2022, I assume that I need to declare this too?
Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

Definitely don't declare it twice. My understanding is it should go under your partner's name, either as the named driver (here) but also when renewing her own insurance as the main driver.

The windscreen claim would be in your claim history so should be declared too.
  • To the OP.

New policy requires policy holder to state claim and unfortunately driver also, a double risk weighting applied.

If you two have another car, then it's another 2 dollops of extra cash.

I've known similar before, less than 1K damage, maybe better to avoid a claim if possible under the rules.

    Insurance companies are mopping up.

I like the free curtesy car often not needed and that generates loads and loads of megga cross companies to claim against each other and customers pay the lot, I've personally seen a 17K bill for a £600 car write off.

It's perfectly legal and it obviously generates lots of taxes!

Thanks for the advice. It is much appreciated. My partner did report the accident to her own insurance company both when it happened and at the renewal of her own insurance renewal in August. Basically the questions are have you had any claims, it just depends whether they mean as a policy holder (in which case I have) or as a driver (in which case I haven't other than the windscreen repair).

Thanks. So the first question on the form is have I had any claims in the last 5 years if so state date, value, type of claim etc. There is no option to put I made a claim but I wasn't driving.
Then when I add my partner as a named driver there is the same question, has this person made any claims in the last 5 years. If so state date, value, type etc.
So you are saying that in both cases I need to put yes we both made a claim on 14/12/24 value £5500. Even though there was only one accident and only one claim?
My partner reported the accident via phone to her own insurance compant both at the time and when she renewed her own insurance. It did put her insurance up a little I believe.

I would clarify it with your preferred insurer before you proceed, if there's no obvious way of clarifying it on the comparison sites' web forms.

Your partner did not make a claim for the accident, you did as it was your policy that the claim was made on.

If the question was for details of any  incidents , then your partner  was involved in an incident as she was driving.

The safest action is to contact the insurance company concerned.
