I don't think Nationwide want your money at the moment.  I had a bond mature recently and that matured into an account paying 1.1%.  It didn't stay there.

I tried to pay £10 into an old ISA with the Coventry, even though it says it's inactive, it pays more interest than the Nationwide.

I have a few savings accounts - some instant access and some limited access. I am about to open a new one year Flex Saver. The rate isn't great but I'm using it as a kind of extension of my Nationwide current account, which is a second current account. I've actually ended up with a bit more money in the FlexSaver than I intended or than I need to have in there, and I plan to move a bit of it, but the plan is just a way of organising money that I expect to need to spend fairly soon but not today. The advantage of this is that because I have a Flex Account with a debit card, I can access my Flex Saver money quickly and easily to pay a bill. I can buy something on my credit card, knowing I can pay off the balance in full and incur no interest. I don't have to worry about waiting a day or three. And I can keep longer term savings in an account which pays more and not be tempted to raid it.
