Hi I did post here ages ago ( I looked it up, I made all of 8 posts so you are bound to remember me dearly
)
Had a difficult year, my 95 ( now 96) year old mother fell in February, fracturing her hip, four surgeries to replace/repair all of which failed ending up in a hip joint removal due to infection, she's now in a wheelchair plus has Alzheimers , so in June I made the very hard decision to find a care home for her. Mum wasn't happy about this and I can quite understand that, but I just ran out of options, and it's a friendly care home who seem to genuinely do the best for their residents.
Trying to lift Mum and care for her did bad things to my own health and I am now going to have hernia surgery on January 12th. Very nervous about this, but it has to be done, and I was thinking about things I would like to do for myself to occupy my mind for the next couple of weeks and remembered this part of the internet!
So today after sleeping badly, I gave up on going back to bed and am now on my second load of washing, dh will hang it out for me and who knows maybe there will be a little bit of dry to be had out there, at least it isn't raining. I still have some Christmas presents to deliver to relatives, but I'm hampered a bit because we have car problems, trying to keep mellow about this, probably not succeeding as well as I should be.........13 -
Hello all, I had another broken night's sleep with some moaning coming from the other side of the bed. Mind you I fell asleep on the sofa for an hour during the evening so it was partly my fault. I watched a good film yesterday on Netflix called After the Flood then some more recorded tv, some of the recordings were rubbish so I turned it off.
Today I have put a load in the wm with another one waiting in the wings, don't think it will dry outside though, it's grey and cold. I'm going to try to put my dining table back to normal as I walked into one of the chairs that was sticking out last night, twice in fact ! I'm still trying to find homes for some xmas presents too.
Hope everyone has a good day, take care and hugs to anyone in need.
nan xx

Morning all
Its very cold here too but with a good breeze I got three loads of washing dried on the line yesterday, they just needed a quick 5 minutes in the TD to finish them off.
I cleaned out the fridge and freezer yesterday it’s looks much better now and more organised I got some mince out and some hm tomato sauce so I will make a lasagne for dinner tonight.
I did a small top up shop on a click and collect so either OH and I will go and collect it that should see us through till next Tuesday and then I will go back to deliveries.
We still have a load of cheese to eat so will probably have a cheese board at some point, I don’t want to waste it.
Have good days all and take care xx

Morning all,
A rubbish night for me as I have a UTI so slept on the sofa - will go get AB’s shortly. Not much else planned today. We do need some fresh fruit and veg, so I’ll make a list shortly.Spent yesterday with ILs and spoke to relative about his diagnosis. He starts treatment next week. His wife was drinking heavily after a year of sobriety, understandable I guess. Just awful.I have the first of two wash loads on. No outside line for me - guess I could out the maidens outside - we’ll see.Welcome back @MollyWindley - sorry you’ve had a stressful time with your DMum xx
Have a good day all

Good afternoon all, thanks for the thread @Scarlet and also @-taff for the daily carol.
It's a late one from me today as, despite being up reasonably early, 'life' has conspired against my plans to get back into some kind of routine. So far, I've taken in a parcel for NDN, had an annoying phone call from an 'energy advisor', a more welcome and lengthy phone call from a cousin, a video call from DS in Brazil and an egg dropped on the kitchen floor to clear up. Grrr. Every time I started something, it went pear-shaped. Maybe I should have stayed in bed!
It's another grey and dull day here but probably better than what's forecast for the end of the week - sleet, snow and cold. So far I've done reasonably well with the central heating but I think it will be on a lot more over the coming days. Either tomorrow or Wednesday I'll pop out for some milk and a TV guide but really don't need anything else - unless of course there are some bargains to be had! Most of the Xmas food has either been eaten or frozen - if you ignore the surfeit of cheese and Stollen, but they're not a problem!
And a half bottle of Bucks Fizz will disappear at NY. Surprisingly, there were no fireworks at Xmas but there will be on NYE so little point in going to bed until they've finished. I'm a night owl anyway so it won't be too much of a later bedtime for me.
Yesterday DS and DP arrived in Rio for a couple of days and are visiting Christ the Redeemer today. They also want to go to Copacabana beach and the Maracana football stadium (the latter being DS's idea).
@MollyWindley - Welcome back, I'm sorry you've had such a rubbish year. Once you get your hernia op out of the way, I hope you'll have a better year.
Likewise to anyone else on here who's struggled with 2025, be it medical/financial/emotionally/poor family dynamics or even just sleep deprived. Take care all, stay safe and warm. Hugs where needed. XXBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Hello everyone
Sorry I've just realised, as I read back, that I've been missing for several days.
DD and little one had a brilliant time at Butlins, though everyone missed seeing them over Christmas. She was well and eating enough so that she didn't need to be on her feeding pump through the day, though she needed it at night
I've had eldest DD here for 5 days, she left at lunchtime to fly back to Germany, I'll miss her company. We've spent our evenings watching 6 hours of a Taylor Swift documentary and some old movies.
We had a lovely day out to Edinburgh yesterday, shopping and lunch, but it was so so busy....I was shattered when we got home...we ate up some cheese and crackers for an easy supper.
Christmas Day was mostly nice though mam didn't recognise eldest DD when she went in, which was upsetting for her and was very irritable at first. Lunch was nice though and she cheered up, dad was in a good fettle though...he loves seeing eldest DD. Then DD and I finished off the day at my brothers house, after dad had fallen asleep about 5pm!
I was in the bath early evening on Boxing Day when dads' carer rang to say mam had had a fall in the bathroom and she'd phoned an ambulance. Well we made her as comfortable as we could and she was there for about 2 hours, 2 lovely paramedics came and they spent ages with her and decided she could stay at home.
She hasn't been eating properly and the carers have reported dads not getting proper meals, so theres to be a meeting to arrange some help for mam too...which she's adamant she neither needs or wants....things are quite tense!
Right, I'm busy chatting to little one so I'll finish this now x
