Missing Amazon package

Amazon say that they tried to deliver a package at 8.30pm on 20 December. Well, they didn’t try very hard, because we were in then, and it was only a pack of kitchen rolls, which they normally just drop in the porch and run.

The tracking now says:

On the way, but running late
Delivery date is currently unavailable

Is this just what to expect at this time of year, and I should just be patient. Or, more accurately, I should be impatient but not do anything about it for another week or two?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

  • i saw the amazon vans out and about today

not sure if they are like royal mail and have all temp staff/drivers on at this type of year

i had an amazon package saturday
i was upstairs and heard the dog barking
no knock or ring of the bell
i am fit and by the time i got downstairs and opened the door which could not have taken more than 20 seconds no one in sight and the parcel was on my front porch

now i live in a gated house on a single lane quiet road but do this in a lot of places and surely parcel theives would steal whatever was left.

Got home from seeing family today to find a huge cardboard parcel on my doorstep in full view of a busy road (and gate left wide open). Was thinking what on earth is it when saw next door's address on it (and their doorstep is at the side of property and out of sight of road.)
  • i beleive with amazon they give the drivers specific locations of where to leave parcels when customers are not in and also if in your case a property has 2 entrance doors with different numbers

i have an evri lady who has done my area for years and experience means she knows every door / but amazon take on huge ammount of temp drivers many of whom only last weeks /cant blame them i see amazon vans doing deliveries on sunday nights and bank holidays at 7pm in winter while i am out walking the dog and in my area at least most looking like they are just turned 20 and rely on mobile phones .

to be fair the drivers in my street never leave large parcels on doorsteps that i have seen

I rang Amazon last night and they agreed to send out a replacement consignment. A simply huge box appeared in the porch at lunchtime today containing the replacement kitchen rolls plus an awful lot of padding.

I assume that carriers have enormous warehouses full of stuff that they never quite got round to delivering?

  • amazon must be like royal mail

when you send something tracked 24 / 48 with royal mail i have had many cases of customers asking where it is and have ring doorbells as proof of no one around and i then go on royal mail website where it says they tried to deliver when in fact the parcel never left the depot and they do it to try and keep there 24 and 48 timelines or managers do it to make head office not have a go at them

The Amazon deliveries to my home are probably worse than any other courier that I use. They don't even ring the doorbell, just leave the parcel 'somewhere' and mark it as 'handed to resident' or posted through letter box. In the past few months I've found parcels left on top of my car in full view of the road in the rain- , I've had another with a large soft drink order left in the middle of the drive - luckily I spotted it before driving up onto my drive - that was marked 'posted through letterbox'. I lost 2 items just before Christmas - different orders, one of them they sent a duplicate the next day, and one they just refunded without even arguling purely because it was a huge box and marked 'posted through letterbox'. Strangely that one turned up from someone in a neighbouring street (not a close neighbour) a few days later as they needed help to carry it, it was apparently left behind a side gate that had been left open accidentally.

The courier I will never deal with again though via Amazon, and would actually refuse to allow them to deliver is AIT, I am currently raising a case against their courier for damage caused by their stupidity in trying to do a three point turn in a big lorry on my drive and breaking a main sewer cover.

Amazon itself is largely a machine. They allocate their drivers x amount of parcels on a route. It mostly works well but doesn't account much for human failings and various other things that can happen along the way. The drivers will have to deliver a high percentage correctly within a given time period, if they fail for whatever reason they will be penalised. I know, as a seller, one or two ways of bypassing some time restraints but they can be brutal and I certainly wouldn't like to work for them (although to a large extent I more or less do!).

They will have lost property spaces. As a seller on Amazon for 20+ years I was recently surprised by a few items turning up at an Amazon warehouse in Germany. I haven't sold in Germany since 2016. Amazon being Amazon were trying to charge me storage fees for them.

the cul de sac was opposite a school and lots of chevrons on the main road so no parking but this was just a few days ago during school holidays so he should have just reversed the van into the entrance walked a few yards and done the delivery and then drove out.

but we all must have seen delivery drivers drop of a parcel / jump in there van and drive 2 houses down and stop to do next delivery to my bafflement
