Barclaycard Credit limit

  • Barclaycard used to be more generous before the COVID crisis. It used to be my highest credit limit card (and the oldest credit account I have, over 25 years) but during covid they more then halved my limit. I have since converted the account to be the Avios card account and put some spend on it, which resulted in two Credit Limit increases within 6 months, but still nowhere close to my previous healthy 5 digits limit.

OP, do you have high limits with other cards already? This may be one of the factors stopping you having limits increases.
100% agree I had a 12.5k limit with Barclaycard that helped me straighten my affairs a few years ago, last time I had a card off them the limit was 4k and I earn more now with less debt

If Barclaycard don’t want to increase your limit, nobody here giving you hints like applying when there is a full moon will help.

Lloyds Ultra CC gives 1% back just now, with the same no fees etc. Try that one.
Is that a no fee foreign use card?

It's entirely depending on your credit history and how they rate your behaviour. I have only ever had limit increases with Barclays well into 5 figures. It is the largest I have by about 5k
I have an excellent credit history and have had many cards in the past with credit limits up to 20K

I did consider this possibility - I have some cards I no longer use. Might need to close them down.

    I agree - 0.25 is quite stingy - Lloyds gives 1% (for a year)
1% is a temporary loss leader.  Lloyds offers an identical amount after that initial year.

If Barclaycard are not meeting your needs look elsewhere and see if another provider has a better deal - quite a number of providers now a forex free credit card.

Nationwide, Chase and Virgin Money also have some interest free spending offers on top too.
Yep - have and have used those so unable to get new user deals. chase don't offer  cash back abroad anymore

I use my Barclaycard Rewards Credit card for my spending abroad as it gives me 0.25% cash back as well as being no fee and good for ATM withdrawals.

However I have a rather small credit limit. £3000. When I am travelling I often get to my limit before payment day and then have to pay it down to create more room for spending.

I have asked for an increase a couple of times but always get refused. I have a good income, good credit score and always pay all my bills on time. I have had the card for a long time.

Any ideas on how to get Barclaycard to increase my limit?
Barclaycard can be quite stingy with their limit. Ultimately you may want to consider a second card with rewards with a different provider and then split your spending across multiple cards
Second this and you should always have another back up card anyway 'just in case'.
I have several back ups - my foreign cards are Barclaycard, Chase, Halifax and First Direct. Unfortunately Barclaycard is the only one with rewards.
