Car insurance - 'what you paid last year' is incorrect
Since 2017, car insurance providers have been legally required to tell you what premium you paid last year.
Every year when I get my car insurance renewal, it states what I paid last year and every year, I'm fairly sure that I paid less than it says. I suspect that insurance companies are inflating 'what you paid last year' so that it looks like you're getting a reduction or only a small increase.
My two car policy with Aviva was up for renewal this month and this is the renewal quote I received:

I have made no changes to my cover. I phoned up and got my usual 5% discount and paid £983.25. BUT when I logged into my Aviva account directly after payment it states that I paid £1340.59:

So my account is showing that I paid £357 more than I actually did. Call me a cynic, but I suspect this is so that at renewal next year, they'll say "Good News! your renewal premium is £1200 down from £1340" - that I never paid.
Has anyone else noticed this?

See that little star next to "last year's price"? What's the footnote that relates to that...?0

The asterisk refers to the full year equivalent price if you make any changes during the year.Mildly_Miffed said:See that little star next to "last year's price"? What's the footnote that relates to that...?
The issue is that I paid £985 for my renewal a couple of days before Christmas and in my online account, it now shows that I paid £1340. Maybe it's an innocent error, but it certainly plays into their hands at renewal next year.0 -
Why not ask them. We can only express our opinions - Who were you insured with previously - is there a *setting up an account charge in last years for example. personally I would be pleased that it had reduced.0
