Universal credit declaring capital
I am looking for some guidance in regards to uc and capital. I have been claiming for just over a year and I worry I have overdeclared my capital and had uncessesary deductions. I have seen ADM Chapter H1: "H1050 Income becomes capital if it has not been spent by the end of the assessment period after the one in which it was received’I have been adding both my bank balances together at end of AP and not taking off DLA, carers, child benefit, child maintenance, universal credit which I’m guessing all do not class as income until the next assessment period

The are classed as income in the period they are paid, so deducted from your monies to leave capital.Wendywoo22 said:I am looking for some guidance in regards to uc and capital. That income becomes capital in the next AP.
If you have just added up all your monies and declaring it all that as capital, then yes there will be incorrect deductions from your UC.

Thanks what do I need to do. Funnily enough iv had a review request and I think it’s because I did my Christmas shopping in October and food shopping and my daughters birthday as she’s in hospital every year for December so I always Christmas shop in October. So my balance went down from £6300-£5200 but it wasn’t obviously the correct amount the whole way through my award as I haven’t taken off said benefits. I have fluctuated between £5.500 and £7.500 over the last year but with the above taken off I shouldn’t have had any deductions whatsoever Oh so stressful. Should I go into my local jobcentre will they beable to help me and recalculate as my assesment period ends the 31st if I’m suddenly taking £3000 off what I was before my amount in my bank will reduce drastically (although I know uc cannot do anything means I’ll be under 6k savings) has anyone ever been in this situation beforeHillStreetBlues said:

To give an example .. my ap is 1st-31st .. I have 2 bank accounts 31st October I had 1. £785.69 2. £4013.70 during the assesment period I had payments of £333.20 carers allowance , £1855.70 UC, £441.60 DLA , £242.20 Child benefit, £537.46 child maintenance .Would I do £785.69 + £4013.70 =£4,799.39
£333.20 + £1855.70 +£441.60+£242.20+£537.46=£3,410.16
£4.799.39-£3.410.16= £1,389.23
I would of given them the £4,799.39 figure when it was supposed to be £1,389.23 fair enough it wouldn’t of made a difference as such but for the month before it would of done where
Bank account no 1 at end of assesment period - £746.01 account no 2 £5351.09
£746.01+£5351.09= £60971I had payments of £333.20 carers allowance , £1855.70 UC, £441.60 DLA , £242.20 Child benefit, £537.46 child maintenance£333.20 + £1855.70 +£441.60+£242.20+£537.46=£3,410.16
£6,09.71-£3410.16=£-3,400.45
is this correct I’m presuming it is .0 -
It could be a standard review as many people have had one (myself included) all you can do is submit your bank statements.
I would also put in an appeal for incorrect deductions, as you supplied all the information they requestion (eg how much is in your banks accounts) and have given them that correct info, and they have calculated an deduction that isn't right.

If your referring to the sums above they were mine have I worked that out correctly how it’s supposed to be worked out? It just asks how much is in your bank accounts at the end of the assesment period doesn’t say about deducing anything for benefits received in the period I only became aware when I took my daughters backdatement dla in to disregard and she said it didn’t look right as I’m not doing it right just adding the sim both up together from my accountsHillStreetBlues said:It could be a standard review as many people have had one (myself included) all you can do is submit your bank statements.

Yes it’s just standard review just annoying sent bank statements off 15th November then asked for another link for my PayPal didn’t hear anything back for a few weeks then another agent said sorry for delay the agent who was doing it doesn’t work for the team anymore so she was taking over, I did my PayPal and she messaged confirming receipt and said she would be in touch in my journal or to do with more instruction. Still not heard anything. I wouldn’t mind but it just feels like my claims in one big mess. Deductions not done properly and the fact that I did my Xmas shopping and birthday shopping for my children which deducted my balance although I have been told it shouldn’t matter as I would of been under 5k with benefits taken off received in period (when they thought I had £6300 at the start) I am ASD and an overthinker which doesn’t help either.HillStreetBlues said:It could be a standard review as many people have had one (myself included) all you can do is submit your bank statements.

The method is correct but figures in second example are incorrect it's £6097.10 - £3,410.16 = £2686.94 (you missed a . )Wendywoo22 said:To give an example .. my ap is 1st-31st .. Sadly when it comes some reviews they are handled badly, and some have taken many months to sort out.Wendywoo22 said:

There will be many people having incorrect deductions as the DWP ask for money, savings & investments but that isn't the came as capital (as you have found out).
The DWP don't seem to want to correct their error in either of those cases leading to people stressing needlessly.
Well done for reading the DM's manual

Would you go in the local jobcentre armed with statements will they be able to sit and sort with me? I don’t mind altering the last 3 months as I have those statements to hand but anything else I will be messing about going through my online banking. My worry is that it looked like I had dropped below 6k in savings (which I didn’t have that capital to start with) I’m not bothered about getting the money back if bothered about accurate reporting from now on.HillStreetBlues said:
