I drove through Gatwick airport red route by mistake do I have to pay the fine ?

Hello I'm new to this forum and nice to meet you all
I've tried to research about the red route fines but can't seem to get my head round if I have grounds to appeal or not .
I was in the wrong lane on the Gatwick roundabout and had no choice but to go left into Gatwick I was panicking and couldn't find anywhere to turn around , I saw a sign that said exit to M23 so I drove down that road but it said red route no stopping parking or picking up I carried on driving and eventually it took me to the motorway and I was able to get back on the M23.
I have had a PCN yet but online it says I most likely will get one.
Can I appeal and say I was not the registered keeper or do I just lump it and pay the 60 quid
Thankyou for taking time to read and help

Just read the  Airport Drop off group thread (which I won't link because we don't do that) and adapt that winning appeal.

It will work even though this isn't about the drop off area. Search for the thread, it is a complete cinch to do. 100% wins.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If you stuck to the rules on the signs, no stopping or parking on a red route,  nothing will come ( same as the red routes in London. )

Personally if i haven't received a PCN yet i wouldn't even bother myself thinking about it, particularly close to Xmas. I would be very busy eating and drinking plus enjoying myself to the fullest  :D If or when the PCN arrives, only then would it be worth my time. These rip off cowboys don't deserve a minute of anyone's' time unless absolutely necessary imo
