Good evening, first post this so please be gentle!
I am after a Rome hotel for a weekend in July as it is the wedding anniversary and I am planning on surprising the wife with a weekend away in Rome whilst as this is somewhere where she has always wanted to go.
Has anybody got a good recommendation for a hotel? and also which airport is best to use?
Many thanks
Glen.

I haven't been to Rome but know people that have and want to myself soon.
Do you have to go in July? I heard it's not so good in July and August thanks to heat and crowds/queues + a lot of shops close up as the locals escape to the beaches !
I know people that flown to both Rome airports and actually they are both OK the "low cost" one isn't so far from the centre.
Airport transfer costs are on here : http://jetvine.blogspot.com/2007/12/analysis-airport-to-city-transport.html
This is a good guide I read.

Excellent hotel in a superb location. Not cheap, but Rome's very pricey. Stayed there in 2005 and would definitely return.
Also search on !!!!!!!!!!!. Someone on here has discount codes - do a search of the Forum for Venere!0 -
Me my wife and a few friends went in September this year and we stayed at the Best Western Hotel Mondial, great location rooms ok but european hotels can be basic its rated 4star and great location for the bus trains and centrally located for walking around, its just off the Via National. A good bet not too expensive but not too cheap either:hello: Lets all save a £ or two, lets all earn a £ or two, and lets all enjoy spending that £ or two wisely.

Oh and the Hotel Mondial is on the Hotelopia web site so a nice discount can be had too and Quidco too....nice eh:hello: Lets all save a £ or two, lets all earn a £ or two, and lets all enjoy spending that £ or two wisely.

Hi i went to Rome last august with my husband and we stayed at the HotelHiberia which was excellent and not expensive as we dont do expensive hotels. If you look at their website you will see it is a very nice hotel and excellent for tourist attractions. The Trevi fountain was a 5min walk and the Spanish steps about another 5mins on top and if you walk in the opposite direction the Coliseum is about a 10-15min walk.Either airport is fine as they have very good bus services to the centre but i wanted to stay at the hotelhiberia because i wanted to be picked up by the hotel taxi which was a nice way to start and end our trip,it may have cost me 50 euros but it was worth it i thinkGood evening, first post this so please be gentle!

If you can get into this place it is stunningThe best work is the cheapest as the quality remains long after the price is forgotten0 -
We stayed at the hotel mellini last august and it was really good - i'd recommend it as a mid priced hotel. I wouldn't be put off going in July - August is meant to be a quiet time but if that was quiet then I'm glad we didn't go when busy!! We had a fab time and the weather was hot but not stifflingMANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

You can get cheap flights to Rome Ciampino airport using either Ryanair or Easyjet (can't recall which, maybe even both fly there), and from there it's pretty easy to get a bus transfer to Rome itself, although it takes about an hour or so.
For hotels, I'd recommend doing a search on Venere - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
PM me if you want a 4% discount code.
I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere (also check out hotelscomparison.com), as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.
Hope that helps
PS - I'm not connected to this website in any way, and I don't gain anything from this post. I also found the discount code on another forum.0
