Duplicate home insurance policy reclaim

I've recently became aware that for the period of Dec24-Dec25 I have been paying two house insurance policies.

I had a policy with Source Insurance, through a local broker for Dec23-24.
I received an insurance renewal email from Source in Nov24. I contacted my broker for a renewal quote in Nov/Dec24 and I didn't wish to take it as the cost had snowballed and I sourced a policy with Tesco.

In Nov25 I then received an insurance renewal email from Source Insurance stating that my insurance was due for renewal in Dec25, when as far as I was aware I no longer had a policy with them!!
This email stated that I had opted in for auto renewals - which I never do, and am unsure how this is possible when I originally sourced my policy with them through a broker.
I then re-checked my renewal email from them in Nov24 and nowhere does it state on that email that I have opted in for auto renewals.

My broker advised that I can reclaim the duplicate policy costs so I emailed Source Insurance.
As well as the information above, I also noted to them that I did not receive any insurance confirmation email in Dec24, when I apparently renewed my initial policy, and stated that if I had received this email then the issue would have come to light at the time.

Taking almost a full month to respond, they did not address ANY of the points I had raised and just said they had confirmed with my insurer that I would be offered a 50% refund, but they could not confirm the exact amount that would be.
No apology whatsoever.

I am not at all happy about this.

Has anyone else has this experience and know what my rights are to claim the full policy cost back?

Many thanks

If you were arranging it via a broker isn't it the broker who wrongly renewed it? I would be complaining to them rather than the insurer.

(also note there is an Insurance board which is probably a better place for this)
