Word: Issue where Word keeps saying to 'Save' even though have just saved it

Hi

I'm having an issue with Word at work, when I save a document and then after saving on attempting to close it, it then comes up with the message box "Want to save your changes to 'document name?'", as though I am closing it WITHOUT saving it.

If I then open the document, it has clearly been saved, but the message is annoying and makes you question whether you've saved it or if there is an underlying issue!

Advice appreciated.

Thanks

No helpful advice but happening to me also. I think it needs a fix from Microsoft. One suggestion is to delete the normal.dot file and let it re-create. Tried that to no effect.

Try changing the default save location from Onedrive to a local folder

I've been having this issue for the last few months too. I did what @unforseen suggested (I don't use Onedrive but it did keep asking me to save there) and it is now happening less often but hasn't gone away entirely.

I don't save documents to Onedrive so I don't think it is that.
  • Thanks everyone for the input.

I also don't save documents to Onedrive.

I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that this isn't happening to me any more, is it the same with others who previously posted on the thread? I wonder if one of the Windows 11 updates over the last month has resolved whatever the cause of the issue was.

A windows blip if autosave isn't selected. It does the same when opening a Word attachment to an email. Even if you just read it, when closing the document the system asks if you want to save. Annoying.

It happens to me too at work. It does it for all MS suite docs, not saved to OneDrive. Very annoying and if you accidentally click Save, you have lost the 'last modified' date …
