I want to sort out my old discs and plug a reader, USB3 so old, into my Macbook, the reader powers up but I cannot see it on the Macbook. I installed Disc Master but that only sees the hard drive.
Do I need to get a newer external reader?

Do you have another computer you can see if it works on?
Almost all USB CD drives should be just plug and play with MacOS2 -
Well it makes a noise like it is working and the green light comes on but nothing on the Macbook.
No we don't have anything else to plug it into.0 -
Some external units need more power that can be applies by a single USB socket, I had one that had a double plug. can you see a power rating on the DVD player?1

No power rating but I think it powers up OK, it wirs, clicks, wirs etc just like it should. I just cannot access it from my Macbook.0
