Slate roof quote

I relative of mine has had a quote to fix a leak on a roof which includes replacing some gutters etc. that in itself is quite expensive at £20,000 but that requires scaffolding up to a third floor on an old Victorian House.

However now, they've quoted him an additional £65,000 to re-slate the back of the roof, is this far too much money?

We're in zone 2 London.

How many quotes has he got? Seems a lot, but it's impossible to know what's reasonable without all the details. Get at least 5 quotes and see how they compare...

Hard to tell from the photo but how will access be gained for the putting up of the scaffolding?

Yeah, that was the only quote. The access will be done by 4 levels of scaffolding. We'll see what we get back from the other quotes.

You haven't said about gaining access)if any) to the side/rear of the house as will impact on the prices you get as more work and time involved.

4 level's of scaffolding, will that involve a "tin hat" over the roof?

If you have quotes copy them onto here after redacting personal info so users can give a better opinion on the prices.
