Sony Customer Service

My mother in law bought a Sony Bravia 26" lcd tv earlier this year from Makro. A couple of weeks ago, the picture quality deteriated. She has waited until after Xmas to report it to Sony as she thought that there would possibly a problem getting an engineer to come out over the holiday period. Today she contacted Sony as the tv came with 1 years warranty but was informed that the warranty does not cover call outs for 26" tv's. She asked how she was going to get it repaired & was told to take it to a Sony Centre. My mother in law told the customer service adviser that she is a pensioner & doesn't drive & couldn't possibly carry the tv on a bus. The reply that she got was "you should have purchased a 32" tv". Local tv repair companies will not service Sony tv's. She has however been paying for a 5 year extended warranty but this does not come into effect until the 1 year warranty expires so now she will have to put up with the bad picture until she can claim on the new warranty.
